How to measure Reddit outreach
Measure Reddit outreach in separate steps: verified publications, observed attention, website visits, qualified inquiries and paid customers. Keep the date, source and limits beside every number. A live reply proves delivery; it does not prove that someone visited or bought.
| Measure | Evidence | What it does not prove |
|---|---|---|
| Published contributions | Permalink, publication date and checked status | Views, traffic or sales |
| Views | Available platform counts with observation time | Unique people, website visits or purchase intent |
| Website visits | Your website’s campaign/referrer records, excluding known bots and your own checks | Complete attribution or qualified demand |
| Inquiries | Actual forms, bookings or substantive inbound messages | Payment or a retained customer |
| Paid customers | Confirmed transactions, with refunds and attribution limits reconciled | That outreach alone caused the purchase |
Keep one record per contribution
Record the URL, community, contribution type, campaign, publication time, last check and observed status. Useful status labels include live, removed, replaced and unconfirmed. If you have not checked it, say unconfirmed.
A replacement needs its own permalink. Keep the original removal in the history so the record explains what happened. Research, drafts, posting attempts and unverified submissions belong outside the delivered total.
Track visits without overstating attribution
Where a business link is permitted, use a campaign label your website can recognize. For example, a website might distinguish utm_source=reddit, utm_medium=organic and a campaign-specific utm_campaign. Preserve the community’s link rules and use the approved destination.
Do not put customer names, email addresses or private details into tracking parameters. Exclude your own verification visits and identifiable crawlers before calling a count human traffic. A missing referrer is unknown attribution, not proof of a new direct customer.
Use the right denominator
Illustrative example, not a ThreadFox result: If a campaign records 100 attributable visits and 4 inquiries during the same window, its observed inquiry rate is 4 ÷ 100 = 4%. If visit tracking is incomplete, that rate has an attribution limit. One paid order is a separate result, not four customers.
Only calculate a click-through rate when the click and impression counts describe the same population and period. Dividing all-time pageviews by a recent snapshot of Reddit views produces a number, but not a dependable rate. When views or clicks are unavailable, leave them unavailable.
Turn the record into a decision
- Publication but no measured visits: inspect audience fit, the answer, link permission and tracking before assuming the cause.
- Visits but no inquiries: review the landing page, offer and match between the conversation and the destination.
- Inquiries but no purchases: examine qualification, pricing and the buying process using actual customer feedback.
- Removed contributions: record the observed reason or “unknown,” revisit eligibility, and account for replacements separately.
How to read ThreadFox’s evidence
Our case study concerns our own operation, with dated posts and saved view counts. The linked-reply comparison explains its observational limits. Neither establishes that every customer will get the same reach or any particular sales result.
For a ThreadFox campaign, published work and its allowance are governed by the service terms. Your own website and payment records are needed to assess downstream business results.
