All 8 rules of r/appmarketing
- No unsolicited self-promotion
Don't post just to push your product, app, or service. If it's relevant to a discussion, mention it with context, not as a drive-by link drop. Promotion-only accounts will be removed. - No link spam
Don't post a bare link with no explanation. Add real context: what it is, why it's relevant, what people will get out of it. - Be helpful, not salesy
Answer the question first. If you're connected to a product you mention, say so plainly. Hard sales pitches get removed. - No low-effort posts
"Check out my app" with nothing else isn't a discussion. Give context, ask a real question, or share a genuine takeaway. - No duplicate or cross-posted spam
Don't post the same promo across multiple subreddits at once. It reads as spam and gets flagged. - Be respectful
No harassment, personal attacks, or brigading. Disagree with ideas, not people. - Disclose your affiliation
If you work on or own something you're mentioning, say so. Honesty builds trust, hiding it gets you banned. - No misinformation or fake reviews
Don't post fake testimonials, astro-turf reviews, or misleading growth/revenue claims.
What the written rules don't show
- Unpublished minimums. Many communities remove posts from new or low-karma accounts through AutoModerator settings that are not on the rules page, often before a moderator sees them.
- Reddit's own filters. Reddit's site-wide spam filters can remove posts from accounts that mostly share links to their own site, in any community.
- The community's norms. Many communities see themselves as peers, not an audience: post where you already take part, and make the post worth reading without the link.
