What this page is

This page quotes r/Darkroom's rules as ThreadFox read them on 2026-10-06. The quoted text is the community's; the verdict above is our reading of it. Conditions often decide whether a post fits (a required thread, flair, posting day, account age or karma), and r/Darkroom's current rules on Reddit always win over this page.

What its rules say about promotion

No Buying and Selling
Using the subreddit to sell or buy anything is not allowed. This includes referral codes in links, links to your shopping cart system, links to redbubble and similar marketplaces, as well as posts like "Looking to buy etc". Links which obfuscate a potential referral codes aren’t allowed. No kickstarter links to active campaigns are allowed.
All 6 rules of r/Darkroom
  1. No Digital Photos
Scans or photographs of darkroom prints or negatives is acceptable. Sharing digital media is not. r/pics is more suitable.
  3. Keep it civil
No racism, sexism, misogyny, ableism, homophobia, anti-trans content/comments or deliberatly antagonistic/hostile comments directed at other members/critics
  4. Include relevant information
If you are posting a photo about you developing film then please be somewhat specific; Is it colour?, Is it B&W? What B&W developer are you using? Same goes for printing. This will not be as heavily forced as seen in r/analog but do try to be somewhat specific
  5. Keep it Relevant to Darkroom
Posts should pertain to darkroom processes at a minimum. They should not relate to lab processing/scanning. If you're not doing something with it in a darkroom or changing bag it shouldn't be here.
  6. No Shock-factor Nudity, Pornography or Sexually explicit content
This is a photography subreddit and people do sometimes take photos that feature nudity. HOWEVER we are a darkroom process subreddit and as such any post whereby, at the moderators sole discretion, the subject matter is more about nudity than the darkroom processes applied or questions being asked will be removed. Repeat patterns of only posting nude content will result in bans to maintain the quality of the subreddit.

What the written rules don't show

  • Unpublished minimums. Many communities remove posts from new or low-karma accounts through AutoModerator settings that are not on the rules page, often before a moderator sees them.
  • Reddit's own filters. Reddit's site-wide spam filters can remove posts from accounts that mostly share links to their own site, in any community.
  • The community's norms. Many communities see themselves as peers, not an audience: post where you already take part, and make the post worth reading without the link.

Let your AI read the rules before it posts.

ThreadFox reads a community's current rules, writes a post that fits them, posts once with Reddit's Brand affiliate tag and checks it stayed up. The free ThreadFox Lite reads rules too.
