Self-promotion restricted Its rules restrict self-promotion. Posts that promote your own work are likely to be removed.

What this page is

This page quotes r/discordbots's rules as ThreadFox read them on 2026-10-06. The quoted text is the community's; the verdict above is our reading of it. Conditions often decide whether a post fits (a required thread, flair, posting day, account age or karma), and r/discordbots's current rules on Reddit always win over this page.

Free, for a specific product: a researched Reddit plan by email (communities whose rules fit your post, quoted and dated), or ThreadFox Lite, read-only tools an AI assistant can use to read a community's current rules itself, through your own Chrome (Claude Code: claude mcp add threadfox-lite -- uvx threadfox-lite). For an assistant that also writes and posts within each community's rules, the ThreadFox kit is $49 once.

Want to post here? Get ThreadFox ($49): your AI (Claude Desktop, Claude Code or Codex) reads a community's current rules, writes one post that fits and posts once from your own Chrome. No Claude? We'll post for you ($99 per 30-day campaign). Free: a Reddit launch plan for your product, ThreadFox Lite or the posting checklist by email.

What its rules say about promotion

No advertising or self-promotion
This isn't a place to make a post to purely promote your Discord bots, it's a community for them. In the case of users asking for recommendations, feel free to link to your bot from a reputable source, such as top.gg. Do not directly link the invite.
All 9 rules of r/discordbots
  1. Keep it family friendly
We're a subreddit open to anyone that isn't a troll, keep it nice for all the other members. This means minimum profanity, and no NSFW or suggestive content.
  2. All topics must be related to Discord or Discord bots
r/discordbots is for Discord bots only, not memes or general discussions. If you want to talk about Discord, see r/discordapp.
  3. Posting standards
For posts, your posts must have an accurate and non-misleading title, and some effort put into content. For comments, the only restriction is to stay on topic, comments that are either misleading or off-topic will be removed.
  4. No advertising or self-promotion
This isn't a place to make a post to purely promote your Discord bots, it's a community for them. In the case of users asking for recommendations, feel free to link to your bot from a reputable source, such as top.gg. Do not directly link the invite.
  5. No witch hunting or discrimination
Keep all posting and comments friendly, respectful and civil, and do not attack or use offensive language when addressing others. Absolutely no harassment, witch hunting, sexism, homophobia, racism, hate speech or related will be tolerated at all here.
  6. We aren't support for Discord bots
If you have an issue with a Discord bot specifically, head to that bot's support server or website. If this fails, or your question is more broad, feel free to post it. If you've made a mistake, we'll let you know.
  7. No poaching custom bots
If someone asks for a bot suggestion, don't comment "I can make this if you pay" or related. You can only comment this if the user asks specifically for a custom bot to be made. Please also only provide tags, not invites to servers or websites.
  8. Don't post raw code, use a paste service
Use a website like hasteb.in or pastebin.com to share your code. Pasting raw code in Reddit posts or comments ruins the code, makes it hard to read, and doesn't maintain formatting, making it hard for people to help.
  9. Don't help if you can't
If you don't know something, don't post about it. If someone wants help but you don't know how to help, then don't. There's no need to post "I can't help" or post misleading advice. Only help if you can.

What the written rules don't show

  • Unpublished minimums. Many communities remove posts from new or low-karma accounts through AutoModerator settings that are not on the rules page, often before a moderator sees them.
  • Reddit's own filters. Reddit's site-wide spam filters can remove posts from accounts that mostly share links to their own site, in any community.
  • The community's norms. Many communities see themselves as peers, not an audience: post where you already take part, and make the post worth reading without the link.

Let your AI read the rules before it posts.

ThreadFox reads a community's current rules, writes a post that fits them, posts once with Reddit's Brand affiliate tag and checks it stayed up. The free ThreadFox Lite reads rules too.
