Political Posting Limits (Account)
As a general rule, political content outside of major newsworthy events (such as ongoing Electoral news) should be limited to one post per day per user at most. Additionally, users should not post on r/galway solely to promote any political agenda - such as solely posting excessively right or left-wing news stories or trying to garner or organize support or funds for a cause or movement. Accounts suspected of being set up to evade any posting limits on political agenda content will be banned.

  1. Posts Must Be Galway-Related
    This is a location based sub for Galway city and county. Any posts which are not uniquely related to Galway as a location can be removed. Discussion should be kept civil and on topic. No illegal content.
  2. No Abuse, Hate Speech or Dogwhistling of Same
    Hate speech or dogwhistling in any form is not tolerated. This includes sexism, homophobia, transphobia, fascism, racism, ableism. * Abuse and shaming will be removed, with the offending poster banned. * Cross-links to hate subs/sites will be removed. * Posting comments / links with hate speech will also be removed and users banned. Harassment towards other users, "Call out" threads, trolling, and tagging users to ridicule them are all considered abuse and bannable.
  3. No 'Doxxing', Witch-Hunts, or Non-Consenting Identification
    Please don't post names or 'dox' users or private members of the public. This includes internet detective work, posting car registrations, requesting identification of non-public figures, and media content that is connected unverifiably to accusations or rumour. Posting links / comments to personal social media will be removed. This is inclusive of photographs of users without consent. (Verifiable public figures, or wanted/missing persons with an official Garda Report/news story an exception).

  5. No Bullying
    Following around other users either on-sub or off-sub to harass them is not tolerated. This includes derailing a user's comment elsewhere on reddit to drop snide/abusive remarks, or to continue on an argument from elsewhere. If you dislike a user, exercise using the block function. If a user is following you around either on r/galway or elsewhere to leave abusive comments, contact the mods with a list of comments/posts targeted.
  6. No Candid / Non-Consenting Explicit / Sensitive Content
    Any candid, non-consenting explicit/sensitive imagery or videos of any persons uploaded to the r/galway subreddit will result in an immediate ban without recourse. The moderators of r/galway will work with any legal requests submitted for poster information or otherwise in the event of a user uploading any content of this manner.
  7. No Misinformation
    r/galway is not a source for driving pageviews and ad-clicks through hysteria and fabricated reporting. Tabloid/Non-news source links will be removed. As examples, the following agenda-driven sources will be removed; * The Sun * The Daily Express * Sunday World * The Daily Mail * The Connacht Tribune This short list is by no means exhaustive; please make an effort to review the content you're posting. British owned tabloid media is banned. Any verifiable misinformation will be removed.
  8. Political Posting Limits (Account)

  9. Avoid Editorialisation
    News articles submitted to the subreddit should not contain any editorialisation of the title. The only exception in these circumstances are for clarity; and in which case, the editorialisation should be contained [within square brackets]. Any [clarification] editorialisations which are clearly slanted to a subjective viewpoint (i.e: "RTE Announce [Pointless] Referendum votes tonight") will be removed. All news posts should be direct links, and not contained within any self-text body.
  10. Duplicate News Posts
    Duplicate threads/posts made within a short period of time will be removed, with the oldest thread/post being kept intact. Note that this does is not intended for use against "reposts" of popular content/memes - this is intended as a measure against duplicate news articles. In the event of another news source reporting on a story, this source should be posted as a comment on the original news thread unless any new/relevant information is contained within this report.
  11. Ban Evasion / "Look-a-like" Accounts
    Ban Evaders/"Look-a-like" Accounts will be banned if they are malicious and/or if reasonable complaints are made. Additionally, any accounts suspected to be made in order to evade any sub ban will be reported to Reddit's Administrators.
  12. "Non Participation" Links & URL Shortner Ban
    When linking to other subs on Reddit, posts must be np links. Links to other subs without the "np" link will be removed. Comments containing url shorteners get pulled by the reddit spam filters. Please avoid using them and link to the full source url instead.
  13. No Speculation / Rumours on Ongoing Criminal Cases or Investigations
    This subreddit prohibits allowing for the speculation or rumours in an ongoing criminal case or investigation, to the point where it may be argued that the dissemination of rumours or speculation could influence, or collapse any ongoing court cases or trials. Articles posted by registered news outlets may be posted without editorialisation - but any comments made to further fuel any speculation on unsubstantiated, or otherwise non-reported issues will be subject to removal.
  14. Contact / Engage Moderators Appropriately
    For modding decisions, modmail is the only accepted way to get in touch with the sub moderators. Any mod call-outs or tags in threads regardless of context can be handled as User-targeting/harassment. Meta-threads about modding decisions will generally be removed also but you are free to message the mods and give feedback; the mods will discuss these matters in private.

What the written rules don't show

  • Unpublished minimums. Many communities remove posts from new or low-karma accounts through AutoModerator settings that are not on the rules page, often before a moderator sees them.
  • Reddit's own filters. Reddit's site-wide spam filters can remove posts from accounts that mostly share links to their own site, in any community.
  • The community's norms. Many communities see themselves as peers, not an audience: post where you already take part, and make the post worth reading without the link.
