What this page is

This page quotes r/gradadmissions's rules as ThreadFox read them on 2026-10-05. The quoted text is the community's; the verdict above is our reading of it. Conditions often decide whether a post fits (a required thread, flair, posting day, account age or karma), and r/gradadmissions's current rules on Reddit always win over this page.

Free, for a specific product: a researched Reddit plan by email (communities whose rules fit your post, quoted and dated), or ThreadFox Lite, read-only tools an AI assistant can use to read a community's current rules itself, through your own Chrome (Claude Code: claude mcp add threadfox-lite -- uvx threadfox-lite). For an assistant that also writes and posts within each community's rules, the ThreadFox kit is $49 once.

Want to post here? Get ThreadFox ($49): your AI (Claude Desktop, Claude Code or Codex) reads a community's current rules, writes one post that fits and posts once from your own Chrome. No Claude? We'll post for you ($99 per 30-day campaign). Free: a Reddit launch plan for your product, ThreadFox Lite or the posting checklist by email.

This subreddit is for anyone who is going through the process of getting into graduate school, and for those who've been there and have advice to give.

What its rules say about promotion

No Advertising
Advertising for consulting and other services is NOT allowed. Violation of this rule will result in an immediate ban and your service being blacklisted. The rule includes advertisements on other subreddits. It also includes soliciting direct messages instead of providing the "free" resource.
All 6 rules of r/gradadmissions
  1. No Advertising
Advertising for consulting and other services is NOT allowed. Violation of this rule will result in an immediate ban and your service being blacklisted. The rule includes advertisements on other subreddits. It also includes soliciting direct messages instead of providing the "free" resource.
  2. Surveys Need Approval
Surveys need Mod and IRB approval.
  3. Throwaways and New Accounts
Throwaway/secondary account posts are permitted, but only for accounts that are least three days old and have positive comment karma. This can be waived at Moderator discretion in unusual or emergency circumstances. The same rules apply to new accounts. If your inquiry is not urgent, you can wait 3 days to post after creating an account. Send a modmail if the post needs to be urgently approved.
  4. Don't be a jerk
This rule should be common sense, but... mods have the right to remove redditors, their posts, and/or their comments if they are jerks. Being a jerk is broadly defined.
  5. Be Explicit
Grad School consists of lots of options. Be clear about what programs you need advice for. Distinguish between a Master's, PhDs and Professional Degrees. And be clear about your field, and apply the flair that best suits it. Use General Advice if your query or post is explicitly inapplicable to a specific field.
  6. Redact identifying information
Do not share identifying information of others such as university or admission officials.

What the written rules don't show

  • Unpublished minimums. Many communities remove posts from new or low-karma accounts through AutoModerator settings that are not on the rules page, often before a moderator sees them.
  • Reddit's own filters. Reddit's site-wide spam filters can remove posts from accounts that mostly share links to their own site, in any community.
  • The community's norms. Many communities see themselves as peers, not an audience: post where you already take part, and make the post worth reading without the link.

Let your AI read the rules before it posts.

ThreadFox reads a community's current rules, writes a post that fits them, posts once with Reddit's Brand affiliate tag and checks it stayed up. The free ThreadFox Lite reads rules too.
