What this page is
This page quotes r/IBO's rules as ThreadFox read them on 2026-10-05. The quoted text is the community's; the verdict above is our reading of it. Conditions often decide whether a post fits (a required thread, flair, posting day, account age or karma), and r/IBO's current rules on Reddit always win over this page.
Free, for a specific product: a researched Reddit plan by email (communities whose rules fit your post, quoted and dated), or ThreadFox Lite, read-only tools an AI assistant can use to read a community's current rules itself, through your own Chrome (Claude Code: claude mcp add threadfox-lite -- uvx threadfox-lite). - its rules on Reddit
This is the unofficial subreddit for all things concerning the International Baccalaureate, an academic credential accorded to secondary students from around the world after two vigorous years of study, culminating in challenging exams. This subreddit encourages questions, constructive feedback, and the sharing of knowledge and resources among IB students, alumni, and teachers. Note that the subreddit is not run by the International Baccalaureate.
What its rules say about promotion

All 9 rules of r/IBO
- Be mature and civil
We expect a somewhat mature audience, at least by Reddit standards. Excessive profanity and/or obscenity, as well as other content inappropriate for a semi-academic atmosphere, are not allowed. Personal attacks are forbidden. Attack the problem, not the person. Relevant NSFW posts must be tagged as such. - No spam
No spamming. Self-promotion should be limited, tasteful, and consistently well-received by the community. Repeated violations of this rule will result in escalation to Reddit Admins. - Avoid low-quality posts and reposts
To keep this subreddit interesting, and not dilute the discussions, we reserve the right to remove/lock posts and/or redirect discussions. Low-quality (poorly written, vague, irrelevant, repetitive, etc.) content may also be removed. - Post titles must be thoughtful, relevant and concise.
Post titles must be thoughtful, relevant, concise and just descriptive enough. They must tell the viewer what to expect without having to open the post. For example, if you have a question regarding which plant species to use for your biology IA, titles like “IA question” or “Will I get good results with X plant for Y experiment?” are unacceptable. Instead, use something like “Question about IA plant choice”. - Academic dishonesty is forbidden
Academic dishonesty is strictly forbidden and will result in a ban without any warnings. The ban length will range from 3 days to permanent depending on the severity of the incident. Please refer to [IB's Academic Integrity policy](https://www.ibo.org/contentassets/76d2b6d4731f44ff800d0d06d371a892/academic-integrity-policy-english.pdf). - Do not ask for unreleased papers
Asking for exam papers not yet available on the IB store is forbidden. This rule intends to combat repetitive requests for such papers, and to cut down on academic dishonesty. Note that sharing these papers is not forbidden - only asking for them. - Advertisements
If you wish to advertise in /r/IBO please see advertisement guidelines and rules in the [respective wiki page](https://www.reddit.com/r/IBO/wiki/adpolicy/) - Ideas for IAs and EEs
Asking for help coming up with IA and EE ideas and RQs is forbidden. You must come up with these yourself. They are individual course components and asking others for ideas is considered collusion. Asking for advise on parts of the component, such as the methodology is permissible. - Ideas for ToK
Asking others for help unpacking ToK essay titles, coming up with RLS, claims, counterclaims, KQs, and exhibition objects are forbidden. All parts of ToK are considered individual course components and asking for help from people outside your group is considered collusion. We can, however, give you advice on whether your arguments make sense, etc. This rule only forbids asking for initial ideas.
What the written rules don't show
- Unpublished minimums. Many communities remove posts from new or low-karma accounts through AutoModerator settings that are not on the rules page, often before a moderator sees them.
- Reddit's own filters. Reddit's site-wide spam filters can remove posts from accounts that mostly share links to their own site, in any community.
- The community's norms. Many communities see themselves as peers, not an audience: post where you already take part, and make the post worth reading without the link.
Let your AI read the rules before it posts.
