Can you promote on r/jellyfin?

Self-promotion restricted Its rules restrict self-promotion. Posts that promote your own work are likely to be removed.

What this page is

This page quotes r/jellyfin's rules as ThreadFox read them on 2026-10-05. The quoted text is the community's; the verdict above is our reading of it. Conditions often decide whether a post fits (a required thread, flair, posting day, account age or karma), and r/jellyfin's current rules on Reddit always win over this page.

Free, for a specific product: a researched Reddit plan by email (communities whose rules fit your post, quoted and dated), or ThreadFox Lite, read-only tools an AI assistant can use to read a community's current rules itself, through your own Chrome (Claude Code: claude mcp add threadfox-lite -- uvx threadfox-lite). For an assistant that also writes and posts within each community's rules, the ThreadFox kit is $49 once.

Want to post here? Get ThreadFox ($49): your AI (Claude Desktop, Claude Code or Codex) reads a community's current rules, writes one post that fits and posts once from your own Chrome. No Claude? We'll post for you ($99 per 30-day campaign). Free: a Reddit launch plan for your product, ThreadFox Lite or the posting checklist by email.

What its rules say about promotion

No advertising
Do not make posts advertising sale of any Jellyfin services such as (and not limited to) shared servers, help, or development. This rule does not mean that posts about paid packages or "merch" are banned but feel free to report them so they can be evaluated on a case by case basis. See our Community Standards for full details: https://jellyfin.org/docs/general/community-standards.html
All 4 rules of r/jellyfin
  1. Remember the human
Absolutely NO personal attacks, abusive language, trolling, or bigotry in any form. Offending posts will be removed and repeat offenders will be banned. See our Community Standards for full details: https://jellyfin.org/docs/general/community-standards.html
  2. No low quality posts
No shitposting or low-quality no-effort posts. No memes. This sub is for discussing and improving the Jellyfin platform and helping your fellow users. This extends to incoherent posting, including ChatGPT output - while Jellyfin is a global project with speakers of many languages, English is our primary working language and your posts should be understandable and on-topic. If your English isn't that good, feel free to also provide it in your native language - someone can hopefully translate!
  3. No piracy/Media Acquesition
NO discussion of piracy, including "how to get media" or anything similar; NO posting of pirated content (including media, cracked proprietary binaries, etc.); NO sharing access to servers. We get it, we're a media server, but we do NOT condone piracy or allow discussion of it here; there are plenty of other places for that. See our Community Standards for full details: https://jellyfin.org/docs/general/community-standards.html
  4. No advertising
Do not make posts advertising sale of any Jellyfin services such as (and not limited to) shared servers, help, or development. This rule does not mean that posts about paid packages or "merch" are banned but feel free to report them so they can be evaluated on a case by case basis. What the written rules don't show

  • Unpublished minimums. Many communities remove posts from new or low-karma accounts through AutoModerator settings that are not on the rules page, often before a moderator sees them.
  • Reddit's own filters. Reddit's site-wide spam filters can remove posts from accounts that mostly share links to their own site, in any community.
  • The community's norms. Many communities see themselves as peers, not an audience: post where you already take part, and make the post worth reading without the link.

Let your AI read the rules before it posts.

ThreadFox reads a community's current rules, writes a post that fits them, posts once with Reddit's Brand affiliate tag and checks it stayed up. The free ThreadFox Lite reads rules too.
