Self-promotion and spam are not allowed. This includes, but is not limited to: Do not promote your own content, websites, channels, products, services, or social media. This includes referral links, repeated linking to your own work, or asking for followers. Spam, mass cross-posting, and promoting off-platform communities (e.g. Discord) are also not allowed. Message the mods if you're unsure. Repeated violations may result in a ban.

  1. Plagarism Policy - Zero Tolerance
    Plagiarism of any kind is not allowed. This includes copying or closely imitating someone else’s letter, post, or writing without explicit permission and clear credit to the original author. If you did not write it, you must credit the original writer and have permission to share it. If you cannot provide proof of permission when asked, the post will be removed. Violating this rule will result in an immediate permanent ban. Protecting writers and their work is a core value of this community.
  2. Do not respond as the receiver, this includes “If this was my person…” comments
    Please do not respond to letters or comments as if they are intended for you or written by you. This includes “If this was my person, I would say…” style responses. Do not come here looking for your person. If you wish to respond to letters, please visit our sister sub r/LettersAnswered. This rule is strictly enforced.
  3. Be excellent to one another
    The golden rule. Treat everyone with kindness, respect, and empathy - leave every interaction better than you found it. No trolling, personal insults, or name calling.
  4. Maintain the culture of the subreddit
    A space for understanding, not judgement or projection; avoid placing blame or assumptions on others, and offer guidance only when it's welcomed.
  5. No arm chair diagnosing
    Do not diagnose or label real people with psychological conditions or personality traits (e.g., narcissist, avoidant, sociopath). This subreddit is a space for personal reflection, not judgment or speculation about others. Focus on your own feelings, experiences, and perspective.
  6. Letters that are pornographic or overly sexual are not permitted
    Keep is personal, not pornographic. This is a place for unsent letters, not erotic fication. We welcome heartfelt expressions of love, longing, and desire, but content that docuses heavily on explict sexual details, graphic descriptions, or reads like a steamy romance or adult story will be removed. Love from the heart, mind, and soul are welcome, love from the genitals is not. If your post is primarily about physical acts or sexual fantasy, its bette suited for a different subreddit.
  7. Ensure what you are posting is a letter
    Posts should be in the form of letters or creative writing expressions. Non-letter content, external links, excessive emojis, and more than three posts per day are considered low-effort and may be removed to prevent spam

  9. No hijacking posts via comments
    This subreddit centers the original writer. Comments that derail, overshadow, or redirect a post toward an unrelated topic or personal agenda may be removed to preserve the integrity of the discussion.
  10. No nonsensical content or word salads
    Submissions should be coherent and understandable, allowing readers to grasp the intended message. While creative expression is valued, clarity ensures effective communication within the community.

    Content that contains references to self harm or other sensitive subjects (such as substance abuse or detailed assault) will be gently removed.   13. Do not break the Reddit Content Policy
    This includes no: spamming, ban evasion, vote manipulation, harassment, bullying, threats of violence, doxxing, impersonation, to name a few. Please review the Reddit content policy for more details.
  14. Mod Discretion
    Mod discretion can be used to remove content that the mod team feels causes issues/problems/harm to the sub or it's users. This rule is in place to act as a buffer between situations/issues that may arise that do not have a rule in place.

What the written rules don't show

  • Unpublished minimums. Many communities remove posts from new or low-karma accounts through AutoModerator settings that are not on the rules page, often before a moderator sees them.
  • Reddit's own filters. Reddit's site-wide spam filters can remove posts from accounts that mostly share links to their own site, in any community.
  • The community's norms. Many communities see themselves as peers, not an audience: post where you already take part, and make the post worth reading without the link.
