Can you promote on r/Psychiatry?

Self-promotion restricted Its rules restrict self-promotion. Posts that promote your own work are likely to be removed.

What this page is

This page quotes r/Psychiatry's rules as ThreadFox read them on 2026-10-06. The quoted text is the community's; the verdict above is our reading of it. Conditions often decide whether a post fits (a required thread, flair, posting day, account age or karma), and r/Psychiatry's current rules on Reddit always win over this page.

Free, for a specific product: a researched Reddit plan by email (communities whose rules fit your post, quoted and dated), or ThreadFox Lite, read-only tools an AI assistant can use to read a community's current rules itself, through your own Chrome (Claude Code: claude mcp add threadfox-lite -- uvx threadfox-lite). For an assistant that also writes and posts within each community's rules, the ThreadFox kit is $49 once.

We're a community created for psychiatrists and others in the mental health field to come together and discuss our field. We are not a subreddit to ask psychiatrists questions either about individual situations about psychiatry generally. Those questions should be directed to r/AskPsychiatry.

What its rules say about promotion

No advertisements, studies, surveys, or spam
Any posts advertising services, recruiting for studies or surveys, requesting interviews, conducting market research, or otherwise selling or making requests will be removed and may result in an immediate ban.
All 9 rules of r/Psychiatry
  1. For professional discussion only!
This is not a place for questions and commentary by non-professionals. That includes questions about psychiatry, about psychiatrists, or about individual situations. Comments or discussion of patient experiences will be removed. If you have a medical question, you may try r/AskDocs, r/AskPsychiatry, r/medical, or another medical subreddit. If you have question about careers or becoming a psychiatrist, you may ask if you are already in medical school or beyond. For earlier, try r/premed.
  2. All posters must set user flair
An appropriate user flair (on your account, not your post) must be chosen prior to posting in r/psychiatry in order to help contextualize your background and also ensure a minimum effort at reading and following subreddit rules. For how to do that, please [see here](https://support.reddithelp.com/hc/en-us/articles/205242695-How-do-I-get-user-flair). For moderator-verified flair, please read rule 7.
  3. No sensationalist/outrageous claims
Any submission making unscientific or unsubstantiated claims is prohibited. This does not necessarily include, for example, theoretical works or opinion pieces. Some elements within psychiatry are understandably controversial. The moderator team will be diligent to address any concerns as they arise on a case-by-case basis.
  4. No anti-psychiatry posting
As an expansion of rule #2, no posts that are anti-psychiatry. No discussion of how psychiatry has harmed you or anyone else without published, peer-reviewed supporting evidence. Among other reasons to avoid unsubstantiated posting, this subreddit also easily has loud posters drown out professional discussion, which has a chilling effect on what we are trying to build into the community here.
  5. No advertisements, studies, surveys, or spam
Any posts advertising services, recruiting for studies or surveys, requesting interviews, conducting market research, or otherwise selling or making requests will be removed and may result in an immediate ban.
  6. Maintain good rediquette
Submissions and comments should remain civil and devoid of personal attacks and insults. https://www.reddit.com/r/Psychiatry/wiki/index#wiki_strictly_enforced_rules And also please see: https://www.reddit.com/wiki/reddiquette
  7. Becoming verified and flair
If you want to get verified as a physician, nurse, therapist, etc. and acquire verified flair, please [message the moderators](https://reddit.com/message/compose?to=/r/Psychiatry) with a link to a photo of some piece of identification (such as hospital ID or diploma) with your username physically present in the photo. You may obscure any personally identifying information (name, institution).
  8. Post original article and start discussion
If you are posting a link, please do the following: 1. Link to the original publication, not secondary writeup, if applicable. 2. Include some comment to kick off discussion. Repeated links to discussions of research without commentary will be treated as spam.
  9. Pre-med and career questions
Questions from anyone who is not yet in medical school should be directed to r/premed, including career switches. Questions about work as a psychiatrist generally can go to r/AskPsychiatry. Questions from medical students, residents, and working psychiatrists are welcome here!

What the written rules don't show

  • Unpublished minimums. Many communities remove posts from new or low-karma accounts through AutoModerator settings that are not on the rules page, often before a moderator sees them.
  • Reddit's own filters. Reddit's site-wide spam filters can remove posts from accounts that mostly share links to their own site, in any community.
  • The community's norms. Many communities see themselves as peers, not an audience: post where you already take part, and make the post worth reading without the link.

Let your AI read the rules before it posts.

ThreadFox reads a community's current rules, writes a post that fits them, posts once with Reddit's Brand affiliate tag and checks it stayed up. The free ThreadFox Lite reads rules too.
