Self-Promotion/Original Content
Did you write it, build it, draw it, code it, photograph it, film it, or otherwise create it? Do you own or run the website you're promoting? We do not allow referral links, direct selling, crowdfunding links etc. Do not recommend your books, website, products, or other self-promotional content at all outside of this day. This includes asking for help naming, designing, or otherwise developing your project. Share your original sci-fi work on Saturdays only. Midnight to 2359 (CST).
Reliable Sources / Crowdfunding
Sharing a link? Use trustworthy, original sources. Sites that scrape or steal content may be removed. Crowdfunding and donation requests are not allowed. This includes indirect links to crowdfunding campaigns, such as websites that direct users to Kickstarter. Patreon-style subscriptions/memberships are generally allowed. Do not misrepresent your connection to content or disguise self-promotion, advertising, or crowdfunding as ordinary discussion. Mod discretion applies.

  1. Be Respectful
    Treat others kindly. Debate the ideas, not people. We will not tolerate harassment, hate speech, or personal attacks. If you disagree with someone then explain your thinking in a civilized manner. No racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, or other forms of discrimination. Science fiction is about exploring diverse possibilities and perspectives. Let that spirit guide your interactions here.
  2. Sci-Fi Only
    Posts must include a science fiction element. This subreddit is for science fiction. Fantasy is welcome only when it includes scientific or technological aspects. For example, Star Wars features mystical elements like the Force, but also spaceships and advanced technology.
  3. No AI-Generated or AI-Assisted Content
    **AI artwork, writing, or media are not permitted** — even if partially created or edited using AI tools. This includes **AI text generators**, **image models**, **voice synthesis**, or any other **automated creative process**. Discussion of **AI as a topic in science fiction** is welcome — posting **AI-produced creations** is not.

  5. Quality Matters
    Low-effort posts (memes, spam, karma farming, posts with no context) will be removed. Text posts shorter than 250 characters will be auto-removed. Original media that is not your own work is welcome. Please credit the creator and title. Explain why you are sharing the image/video/article etc. "It's cool" is not a valid reason. Use informative titles and avoid clickbait.

  7. English Only
    To keep discussions accessible to everyone, please post in English. Posts about foreign-language books, films, or shows are welcome — but the post title and body should be written in English so all members can participate in the conversation. Comments in other languages are allowed, but English is preferred so the broader community can follow along.
  8. Use correct post flair

  9. Search Before Posting
    **Contribute with care.** Before posting, check if the topic has already been shared recently. Posts on the same subject within the past **7 days** may be removed. Be curious, constructive, and help make r/scifi a hub for exploration, creativity, and discovery.
  10. No NSFW Content
    Keep r/scifi **safe for all audiences**. NSFW or sexually explicit material is not allowed. There are other subreddits for that kind of content — please share it there instead.
  11. No Spoilers!
    Use spoiler tags when discussing any major plot detail, twist, or ending, even for older works. Format: `>!spoiler text!<` • No spoilers in titles or images. Titles should remain spoiler-free at all times. • If your post's body contains spoilers, format them as such or add "[SPOILERS]" to the title. • When in doubt, tag it.
