What this page is
This page quotes r/selfhosted's rules as ThreadFox read them on 2026-09-26. The quoted text is the community's; the verdict above is our reading of it. Conditions often decide whether a post fits (a required thread, flair, posting day, account age or karma), and r/selfhosted's current rules on Reddit always win over this page.
Free, for a specific product: a researched Reddit plan by email (communities whose rules fit your post, quoted and dated), or ThreadFox Lite, read-only tools an AI assistant can use to read a community's current rules itself, through your own Chrome (Claude Code: claude mcp add threadfox-lite -- uvx threadfox-lite). For an assistant that also writes and posts within each community's rules, the ThreadFox kit is $49 once.
Want to post here? Get ThreadFox ($49): your AI (Claude Desktop, Claude Code or Codex) reads a community's current rules, writes one post that fits and posts once from your own Chrome. No Claude? We'll post for you ($99 per 30-day campaign). Free: a Reddit launch plan for your product, ThreadFox Lite or the posting checklist by email.

What its rules say about promotion
Spam / Self-Promotion / Affiliate Links
Do not spam or promote your own projects too much. We expect you to follow this [Reddit self-promotion guideline](https://www.reddit.com/r/reddit.com/wiki/selfpromotion). Promoted apps must be production ready and have docs. No direct ads for web hosting or VPS. Only mention your service in comments if it’s relevant and adds value.
All 6 rules of r/selfhosted
- Low-Effort / Off-Topic
All posts must be about [self-hosting](https://wiki.r-selfhosted.com/learn/what-is-self-hosting/). If you need help, explain what you’ve tried and what you’re stuck on. Posts lacking detail will get a sticky asking for more info. Mobile apps are allowed only as companions to a self-hosted backend. All content should be in English or contain a translation to English. - Spam / Self-Promotion / Affiliate Links
Do not spam or promote your own projects too much. We expect you to follow this [Reddit self-promotion guideline](https://www.reddit.com/r/reddit.com/wiki/selfpromotion). Promoted apps must be production ready and have docs. No direct ads for web hosting or VPS. Attack ideas, not people. Treat everyone with respect. Personal attacks or insults at a person will be removed. Report violations instead of engaging and the mods will handle it. Zero tolerance for uncivil discussion. We expect you to follow the [Reddiquette](https://support.reddithelp.com/hc/en-us/articles/205926439-Reddiquette). - Blog Link Posts
Blog posts are allowed, but do not post just a link, add an explanation about the blog, why it matters, and how it helps users. - Dashboards / Companion Apps / Tools - Wednesday Exceptions
On Wednesdays, you may post dashboards or tools that help self-hosters provided it is flaired as such, even if they are not self-hosted. Mobile apps are allowed only as companions to a self-hosted backend. - New Projects - “New Project Megathread” Exceptions
Only in the current “New Project Megathread”, you may post projects that are younger than 3 months (measured by first public presence, e.g. git commit, social media post, etc.).
What the written rules don't show
- Unpublished minimums. Many communities remove posts from new or low-karma accounts through AutoModerator settings that are not on the rules page, often before a moderator sees them.
- Reddit's own filters. Reddit's site-wide spam filters can remove posts from accounts that mostly share links to their own site, in any community.
- The community's norms. Many communities see themselves as peers, not an audience: post where you already take part, and make the post worth reading without the link.
Let your AI read the rules before it posts.
ThreadFox reads a community's current rules, writes a post that fits them, posts once with Reddit's Brand affiliate tag and checks it stayed up. The free ThreadFox Lite reads rules too.
