No Self Promotion.
Content advertising your own play-throughs or live-streams of the series will be removed. However, links containing YouTube videos which are unique or official in nature are acceptable. Some examples include retrospectives, cover music and narrative analysis. Please note that sharing ‘OC’ fan art and cosplay is encouraged and this rule does not affect that content.
No Third-Party Sales.
This is not a marketplace. To avoid the risks of potential scams, content attaining to the selling or trading of third-party Silent Hill or PT merchandise will be removed. However, links regarding Etsy Stores and independently licensed merchandise are acceptable and an exception to the rule. If you are a first-time buyer, ensure to only use trusted sources and marketplaces.

  1. Be Respectful.
    We understand that a heated discussion can happen, however avoid provocatory language and personal insults toward your fellow community members. Treat others how you would like to be treated and respect differing opinions to your own. Severe penalties may occur to community members that violate this rule. *Provocatory language includes language used with the intent to attack, upset or derail.
  2. Flair and Tag Spoilers.
    With the announcement of new Silent Hill projects there has been an influx of new users to the subreddit. To ensure that new members and players have a spoiler free experience please use the spoiler flair for posts and the spoiler tag within your comments. Any content not following this rule will be edited or removed.   3. No Spam.
    It is understandable to be excited about news, announcements and rumors. However please refrain from posting these articles and announcements multiple times. If you would like to partake in a discussion surrounding them, please add your input into the original or pinned post. Any posts in violation of this rule will be removed.
  4. No Minimal Effort Posts.
    Your opinions are important to us; however, the effort of posts should reflect the quality we strive to achieve here on r/SilentHill. Nonsensical, incoherent, or otherwise irrelevant posts that do not relate to the focal point of the subreddit will ultimately be removed.
  5. No Artificially Generated Content (A.I).
    Content depicting material that have been artificially created with the use of A.I tools will be removed. Please note that we still encourage sharing Original and ‘OC’ fan art/cosplay.
  6. No ‘Rule 34’ Pornographic Images.
    While the subreddit does encourage the use of the NSFW flair for adult content, we are unable to accept any posts or links to Rule 34 imagery. Please visit the relevant subreddits to interact with this type of content.
  7. No Self Promotion.

  9. Provide Sources for Rumors.
    To prevent the spread of misinformation, linked sources or images will be required for all content discussing rumors. Failure to provide verification via these methods may result in the post or comment being removed.
  10. Use the Search Function.
    Chances are that your question has been answered previously by past or current community members. Please use the search function and review past content before creating your post. If the results do not solve your current problem or inquiry, you may create a new post.   11. No Photos of Foggy Backdrops.
    We understand that you are passionate about your current weather, but many of us see fog on a regular basis. So, to avoid over saturation of this kind of content, only images of fog which more closely resemble Silent Hill are permitted, i.e. denser than typical fog that greatly limits visibility of the surrounding environment, eerie images that resemble the aesthetics of Silent Hill etc. This rule will not be enforced during 'Fog Post Friday'.
  12. Credit Fan Content
    Sometimes users will repost fanart, cosplay, or other unofficial works that they deem to be impressive. This is acceptable as long as the artist or author is properly credited. If you are unaware of the source and made a genuine attempt to find it (such as through a reverse Google image search), then specify "unknown artist" in the post. Do not present the works of others as your own.
  13. No drama-posting
    Though we allow "negativity" (I.E. negative criticism of newer entries), we do not allow drama, harassment, or toxicity, such as screenshotting random social media posts/provocative thumbnails to enrage the subreddit for karma, casting aspersions on other users, complaining about "insufferable" opinions you disagree with in a hostile manner, and making public posts or comments solely to asperse the moderation team. We also do not allow intentional revisionism or behavior resembling astroturfing.

What the written rules don't show

  • Unpublished minimums. Many communities remove posts from new or low-karma accounts through AutoModerator settings that are not on the rules page, often before a moderator sees them.
  • Reddit's own filters. Reddit's site-wide spam filters can remove posts from accounts that mostly share links to their own site, in any community.
  • The community's norms. Many communities see themselves as peers, not an audience: post where you already take part, and make the post worth reading without the link.
