Can you promote on r/Straycats?

No rule mentions promotion None of its rules mentions self-promotion. That is not permission: read every rule, say plainly that it's yours, and make the post useful on its own.

What this page is

This page quotes r/Straycats's rules as ThreadFox read them on 2026-10-05. The quoted text is the community's; the verdict above is our reading of it. Conditions often decide whether a post fits (a required thread, flair, posting day, account age or karma), and r/Straycats's current rules on Reddit always win over this page.

Free, for a specific product: a researched Reddit plan by email (communities whose rules fit your post, quoted and dated), or ThreadFox Lite, read-only tools an AI assistant can use to read a community's current rules itself, through your own Chrome (Claude Code: claude mcp add threadfox-lite -- uvx threadfox-lite). For an assistant that also writes and posts within each community's rules, the ThreadFox kit is $49 once.

Want to post here? Get ThreadFox ($49): your AI (Claude Desktop, Claude Code or Codex) reads a community's current rules, writes one post that fits and posts once from your own Chrome. No Claude? We'll post for you ($99 per 30-day campaign). Free: a Reddit launch plan for your product, ThreadFox Lite or the posting checklist by email.

All 9 rules of r/Straycats
  1. Tag injuries NSFW
If you post any injury, you must mark the post NSFW. This includes posts where a cat clearly needs veterinary care (serious wounds, blood, infections, broken limbs, etc.). If you are not sure whether the post needs an NSFW tag, tag it NSFW anyway. Simple rule: When in doubt > Tag it NSFW. ⚠️
  2. Read the Community Highlights/Pinned Comment on this Sub!
To prevent comment burnout, please read the Pinned Comments on this sub. They will answer a lot of your basic questions and guide you to resources that can help.
  3. Post Location When Necessary
If asking for help in your area, you must post your general location to enable us to suggest local resources.
  4. Donations/Wishlists
Fundraising is not a first-line option on this Sub. Approval is only considered when ALL apply: • The poster is in a region with limited or no rescue, shelter, or low-cost vet access • Local surrender, rescue, and clinic options have been fully explored and documented • Strict verification, transparency, and posting requirements are met If viable local resources exist, approval will not be granted. Donors must do their own due diligence. Mods assume no liability.
  5. No Derailing
All commenting need to refrain from derailing from the issue at hand and about which OP has requested help, examples include asking "why [OP] did this?" without any constructive attempts to assist the OP to resolve the issue
  6. Medical Issues - Feline
To the OP: we're not vets. If you're concerned, pls take the cat to the vet or post on r/AskVet or r/AskVetAnimals. There are US based low-cost clinics listed in the Community Highlights/Pinned Comment To Members: Pls do not speculate/comment with anecdotes about your own or others' pets. Do not give OP specific treatment instructions, including instructions on meds and dosages. Do not give possible diagnoses that could explain the symptoms described by OP. Guide them to seek help from a vet.
  7. No Medical Issues - Human
We're not doctors. If you are concerned you've contracted rabies or have any other health concern from your contact with a cat, seek help from a qualified medical professional. You can also try: r/AskDocs, r/medical_advice, or r/medical.
  8. No breed questions
We are not the sub for breed questions. We can however safely say: unless your cat came from a breeder or has a family member that came from a breeder, odds are your cat is a domestic shorthair/medium hair/long hair. Unlike dogs, cats do not have as well-defined breeds outside of registered breeders.
  9. No Cross-Posting
Crossposts are not allowed. Please submit original posts directly so we can ensure accurate help.

What the written rules don't show

  • Unpublished minimums. Many communities remove posts from new or low-karma accounts through AutoModerator settings that are not on the rules page, often before a moderator sees them.
  • Reddit's own filters. Reddit's site-wide spam filters can remove posts from accounts that mostly share links to their own site, in any community.
  • The community's norms. Many communities see themselves as peers, not an audience: post where you already take part, and make the post worth reading without the link.

Let your AI read the rules before it posts.

ThreadFox reads a community's current rules, writes a post that fits them, posts once with Reddit's Brand affiliate tag and checks it stayed up. The free ThreadFox Lite reads rules too.
