What this page is
This page quotes r/TorontoMetU's rules as ThreadFox read them on 2026-10-05. The quoted text is the community's; the verdict above is our reading of it. Conditions often decide whether a post fits (a required thread, flair, posting day, account age or karma), and r/TorontoMetU's current rules on Reddit always win over this page.

Buy/sell posts are allowed if they are relevant to TMU. This includes textbooks, clothing, etc. Housing posts are allowed if they are near (+-2km) TMU. Posts MUST include a price. Housing posts, if they do not include the address, must include the nearest major intersection. Advertisements are only permitted in limited circumstances and they must be relevant to TMU.
No Illegal Activities, Breach of Copyright or Academic Misconduct
No explicit sharing, insinuation and/or promotion of illegal information and activities. No sharing of copyrighted materials (textbooks, course work, etc) without the proper license/approval. All 10 rules of r/TorontoMetU
- Be Nice, Be Respectful
* No personal attacks/flaming * No hostile comments * No racial, sexual, homophobic, transphobic, religious, political, ethnic, and/or other slurs against another user * No pattern of behaviour that constitutes harassment * No sexually explicit, profane, or adversarial language sent directly at another person * No advocating self-harm * No being dismissive of a person due to their academic affiliations * Trolling (concern trolling, dog-whistles, you get the idea) - Must Be Relevant To TMU
Posts must be relevant to TMU. If you have questions regarding Toronto, direct them towards /r/askTO. - Rules Regarding Advertisements/Buy & Sell Posts
Buy/sell posts are allowed if they are relevant to TMU. This includes textbooks, clothing, etc. Housing posts are allowed if they are near (+-2km) TMU. Posts MUST include a price. Housing posts, if they do not include the address, must include the nearest major intersection. Any advertisements (job postings, product/service marketing, paid TMU club events, etc) must be approved by the moderators. Advertisements are only permitted in limited circumstances and they must be relevant to TMU. - No Low Effort Questions/Multiple Posts On The Same Topic
If there already exists a similar thread on the same topic, please do not create another thread related to it. Try to keep the discussion to one thread only. If several threads are created on one topic, they may be removed. The majority of questions that are asked here can be easily googled or answered through Toronto Metropolitan's own services. Only ask a question if your case is unique in a way that you can't find any information. Easily answered questions will be removed. - Rules Regarding Admissions-Related Posts/Comments
Any question regarding admission averages must go in the pinned mega thread. Admissions posts may be removed at a moderators discretion and the poster redirected to the current admissions megathread. Most posts regarding admissions are repeated each year. It's expected that you will search for your question before creating a new post. Subreddit posts (not comments on the megathread) regarding admissions should be reserved for urgent, unique questions. - No Illegal Activities, Breach of Copyright or Academic Misconduct
No explicit sharing, insinuation and/or promotion of illegal information and activities. No sharing of copyrighted materials (textbooks, course work, etc) without the proper license/approval. No promotion, sharing or insinuation of academic misconduct (asking for assignment help, test/assignment sharing, etc). - Usage of Flairs (e.g. "Serious Flair")
Please give posts a flair which most suits it. Misuse of these flairs (or not using one at all) may result in a moderator changing it or removing the post. - No Personal Information
Posts containing personal information regarding someone are not allowed and will be removed. Offenders who intentionally break this rule will be banned permanently. More information regarding this can be found here: https://www.reddithelp.com/hc/en-us/articles/360043066452 - Rules Regarding Research Studies
Only academic surveys are allowed. Academic research studies should include their ethics approval within the body of the post. Course work surveys are not permitted. - Rules Regarding Petitions
Any petitions and related threads must be approved by the mods. The petition must be related to Toronto Metropolitan University or affect the greater Metropolitan community as a whole (no petitions from other schools).
What the written rules don't show
- Unpublished minimums. Many communities remove posts from new or low-karma accounts through AutoModerator settings that are not on the rules page, often before a moderator sees them.
- Reddit's own filters. Reddit's site-wide spam filters can remove posts from accounts that mostly share links to their own site, in any community.
- The community's norms. Many communities see themselves as peers, not an audience: post where you already take part, and make the post worth reading without the link.
Let your AI read the rules before it posts.
ThreadFox reads a community's current rules, writes a post that fits them, posts once with Reddit's Brand affiliate tag and checks it stayed up. The free ThreadFox Lite reads rules too.
