Can you promote on r/UTAustin?

Self-promotion restricted Its rules restrict self-promotion. Posts that promote your own work are likely to be removed.

What this page is

This page quotes r/UTAustin's rules as ThreadFox read them on 2026-10-05. The quoted text is the community's; the verdict above is our reading of it. Conditions often decide whether a post fits (a required thread, flair, posting day, account age or karma), and r/UTAustin's current rules on Reddit always win over this page.

Free, for a specific product: a researched Reddit plan by email (communities whose rules fit your post, quoted and dated), or ThreadFox Lite, read-only tools an AI assistant can use to read a community's current rules itself, through your own Chrome (Claude Code: claude mcp add threadfox-lite -- uvx threadfox-lite). For an assistant that also writes and posts within each community's rules, the ThreadFox kit is $49 once.

Want to post here? Get ThreadFox ($49): your AI (Claude Desktop, Claude Code or Codex) reads a community's current rules, writes one post that fits and posts once from your own Chrome. No Claude? What its rules say about promotion

No commercial posts
If you're a company, recruiter, or entrepreneur, you may not post here for the purpose of advertising your product or service, or to solicit offers, or recruiting employees/partners (exceptions may be made on a case-by-case basis with prior approval). There are many other places to do that, like the various career fairs and the Hire A Longhorn website. Additionally, do not post here to try to sublease, sell or buy, get more YouTube views, raise money for your startup, organization, or self.
All 9 rules of r/UTAustin
  1. Be respectful of other members
This includes but is not limited to name-calling and personal threats. Unpopular opinions are okay (you'll have to face the voters on those), but harassing an individual or inciting violence will result in a ban.
  2. Posts must be related to UT Austin in some way
Posts here must appeal specifically to UT students, faculty, and/or staff. If it's meant for a larger audience, you could try /r/Austin, /r/college, or /r/Texas. Mass-posters spamming in this subreddit will be banned.
  3. Posts must have a descriptive title
Please avoid vague titles such as "Quick Question" or "Registration". Readers should have a basic idea of what your post is about by looking at the title alone. Of course, you are free to elaborate further in the body of a text post.
  4. User flair must be major or staff affiliation only
You may optionally add your graduation year to your flair. For example, "Political Science 2018" or "Information Security Office" would be appropriate flairs. "Bevo's favorite" and "3.82 GPA", however, are not.
  5. Do not post personal information
This is a reddit-wide rule and could get you banned from the site entirely. If you are going to mention anyone's name or email address, they must be a public figure and the information must be publicly available (the UT Directory excluded). For example, mentioning a professor by name is okay, but calling out a specific classmate is not.
  7. Admissions questions are not allowed
Questions regarding admission to the school or a specific major are not allowed, nor any questions relating to asking if UT is right for you. Please redirect these questions to /r/UTAdmissions. We used to see this kind of question far too often, and more times than not, no one here can give you an accurate answer. If you are concerned with whether or not you will be admitted to a school or the university, please speak with an admissions counselor.
  8. No survey requests
Due to the extraordinary amount of survey spam at the end of the semester, requesting this subreddit's users to take your survey is not permitted.
  9. Please do a search or use our sidebar before posting
In an effort to keep reposts to a minimum, we ask that you please do a search for your intended post title before posting. If your post is removed because of Rule 9 it means someone has posted the same thing recently or the answer you are looking for is linked in our sidebar or pinned posts.

What the written rules don't show

  • Unpublished minimums. Many communities remove posts from new or low-karma accounts through AutoModerator settings that are not on the rules page, often before a moderator sees them.
  • Reddit's own filters. Reddit's site-wide spam filters can remove posts from accounts that mostly share links to their own site, in any community.
  • The community's norms. Many communities see themselves as peers, not an audience: post where you already take part, and make the post worth reading without the link.

Let your AI read the rules before it posts.

ThreadFox reads a community's current rules, writes a post that fits them, posts once with Reddit's Brand affiliate tag and checks it stayed up. The free ThreadFox Lite reads rules too.
