What this page is
This page quotes r/vfx's rules as ThreadFox read them on 2026-10-06. The quoted text is the community's; the verdict above is our reading of it. Conditions often decide whether a post fits (a required thread, flair, posting day, account age or karma), and r/vfx's current rules on Reddit always win over this page.
Free, for a specific product: a researched Reddit plan by email (communities whose rules fit your post, quoted and dated), or ThreadFox Lite, read-only tools an AI assistant can use to read a community's current rules itself, through your own Chrome (Claude Code: claude mcp add threadfox-lite -- uvx threadfox-lite). For an assistant that also writes and posts within each community's rules, the ThreadFox kit is $49 once.
Want to post here? Get ThreadFox ($49): your AI (Claude Desktop, Claude Code or Codex) reads a community's current rules, writes one post that fits and posts once from your own Chrome. No Claude? We'll post for you ($99 per 30-day campaign). Free: a Reddit launch plan for your product, ThreadFox Lite or the posting checklist by email.

All 9 rules of r/vfx
- Link to the original content creator
Whenever possible, link to and give credit to the original content creator. No re-uploads allowed. Showreels and breakdowns are allowed (both company and personal) but please link to the owner of said breakdown or showreel. Montages and "best of" type of videos are likely to be deleted, unless they spark meaningful and valuable discussions in the community. - Be informative when you offer work
If you need some work done, and are looking for visual effects artists to help you, please include informations such as: -Nature and scope of the work (distribution channels, visual style, amount of shots, a small description of the type of effects...) -Remuneration, when applicable - unpaid work is generally frowned upon. -Estimate of date of delivery -Size of the team and main location (useful for remote work across timezones) - Do not advocate for piracy. Do not facilitate piracy.
Please respect copyrights of software, elements, assets and others you encounter online. Any person found facilitating access to pirated content (including mentioning the name of piracy related websites) expose themselves to banishment from the community. - Be kind.
Many of our users are your colleagues. Your interns. Your supervisors or heads of studios. /r/vfx is a place to freely exchange ideas and information, but we expect our users to use restraint when interacting with others, in the same they would use restraint when chatting in their work's kitchen. Insults, invectives, personal attacks or threats have no place in /r/vfx, the same way they aren't welcome in the workplace. - Contribute to the craft of VFX - avoid low quality reels and rehashing old ideas.
Potentially subjective, but we have regular complaints about a lot of low quality video content posted mostly for youtube clicks. This sub is about creating better vfx work and if you're reposting an idea that's well established and contributes nothing to the craft, then please think again. - Tutorials are to be posted in our sister sub r/VFXTutorials
We now ask that tutorials be posted on r/VFXTutorials instead of here. This will allow our members who are not interested in tutorials to skip them, while still making them available for those who do want them. - Use descriptive post titles
Every post title needs to describe the content of the post as accurately as possible. Vague titles or clickbait will result in your post being removed. - Use the appropriate Flair
Posts wrongly Flaired will either be re-flaired by the mods or removed. - News/Article: Articles about VFX. - Showreel: Short edited video with samples of work and contact information. - Breakdown/BTS: Must BTS footage or breakdown. - Discussion: Topics that can generate discussion or debate. - Question: Questions that can be answered. - Learning: Learning material other than tutorials. - Job Offers: Refer to Rule #3 - Fluff!: For everything else. Remember rule #5. - Use English when possible
While we can accept some specific non-english speaking language posts and comments if they are relevant to the discussions on this subreddit, we remain first and foremost an English-speaking online community. If you do link to an article or content written/spoken into a different language, please try to help the community by providing context and translations when possible.
What the written rules don't show
- Unpublished minimums. Many communities remove posts from new or low-karma accounts through AutoModerator settings that are not on the rules page, often before a moderator sees them.
- Reddit's own filters. Reddit's site-wide spam filters can remove posts from accounts that mostly share links to their own site, in any community.
- The community's norms. Many communities see themselves as peers, not an audience: post where you already take part, and make the post worth reading without the link.
