Can you promote on r/VideoEditing?

Only in a dedicated thread Its rules send self-promotion to a dedicated thread, such as a weekly or pinned one. Promotion outside it is removed.

This subreddit is geared towards hobby/amateur editor. We have a professional sister sub /r/editors - and an "Ask a Pro" thread there for aspirational (but professional) questions.

Where to post: Developer thread only for products/software (find it via the pinned 'READ BEFORE YOU POST' thread); YouTube channel promotion and editing services are banned everywhere in the sub

What it requires: Developers may only post about their product in the dedicated Developer thread; no advertising video-related services (even free); no promoting your YouTube channel; no URL shorteners; no referral programs

What its rules say about promotion

No advertising your video-related services
The purpose of the subreddit is to provide advice and help for hobbyist editors. If you are trying to find new clients /r/forhire may be a more appropriate place for such posts. Free isn't okay either. If you want to do free work, we recommend that you find someone local (friends, non profit, a hobby film group) who needs help
No use of URL shorteners
URL shorteners are helpful in character-limited social media settings, but with Reddit's 10,000 character limit and [ability to obscure a link within markdown](https://www.reddit.com/wiki/commenting), they are unnecessary and can be used to obscure where someone is being directed to, which may be abused to direct people to unsafe websites, or to generate revenue by way of an advertising landing page (which we view as spam). An exception to this rule will be made for Approved Submitters.
No advertising of spammy or license-abusive software
This applies to software known to abuse either existing closed-source licenses or known to be abusing open source licenses. Brorsoft is a prime example of a company stealing Open Source video processing code and reselling it without permission.
No promoting your YouTube channel
This is not a subreddit for people to promote their YouTube channel, or otherwise drive traffic to their channel in order to inflate their viewership/subscription numbers. People posting links to their own YouTube channels is allowed for critiquing, sharing of content for others to use, or on [Tutorial] Tuesday. However posting links for the sole purpose of promoting your YouTube channel is not allowed, and repeated violation can result in a ban.

  1. Don't be a jerk
    It's totally fine to disagree. Do so politely. Behave as an adult. Name calling, doxing etc is not okay here. Try not to be caustic. Life is hard enough. Treat everyone "as if" they're having a bad day and you'll be fine. Disagree if you like - just don't be disagreeable. Remember there's a human being on the other side of the keyboard.
  2. Feedback/Critique/What software/hardware? Use the megathread
    These are very common needs - we have a monthly thread for them. Please use it.
  3. Zero Piracy or Discussion of Piracy, or other Circumvention of IP Law. (Bannable immediately)
    We don't want people to rip off our work, we shouldn't rip off theirs. This includes content and software. Allowances will be made for fair use, however.
  4. Pick a subreddit for your post - not both (either here or /r/editors
    Either you're a professional (post /r/editors) or you're not (post here). Only in some rare circumstances should you be posting in both places.
  5. No rates - it's impossible to answer.
    Ok, we get it. "How much to charge." Whatever your question - we can't REALLY answer it. It has WAY too much to do with the gig, how long it takes, where you live and hell, what your time is worth.   6. Developer (at any level?) Use the Developer thread
    We don't allow developers to post about their product directly as a post or spam our comments with their product, regardless of how good it is. We have a dedicated thread for you to use. Please use it and obey the rules for it

  10. Tutorials on Tuesday
    If you want to post a tutorial you created - then it belongs on tuesdays with [TUTORIAL] at the start and the name of the software. If it's someone elses tutorial, then you should be posting as text - including the "what I learned" from the tutorial
  11. No "work for free"
    Why would you go to a place where everyone uses these tools and say "I do it too!". Go to your local charity (or interest) and ask if they need editing instead.

  13. Discord- we're not interested.
    Look, we get it. Discord is the cool communications of today. Go look at IRC, ICQ, Slack and the other dozen chatrooms that have existed for 20+years. Since you're not going to give it over to the admins here and we can't authenticate against reddit, we can't recommend it.
  14. Low Effort posts
    Yeah, we get it. You want to create a discussion, controversy or want your answers on a plate. We expect some effort and some space to be relevant. And yes, this is totally on the mod's discretion.
  15. Posting a JOB? Here are the key rules
    The rules are simple, It is an exchange of work against time. - You have to make it the pricing a $/hr. It's not "Up to" in pricing. If it's a range *state the range* - The thread will get locked. People DM you. Not IG, not a form, you want filled out. You have to deal with the people applying Everything else will get rejected. Anything else is exploitative - such as per video, per minute or a shared revenue system.
