All 11 rules of r/AmIOverreacting

No threats, violence, harassment, hate speech, slurs, or encouragement of harm (including self-harm). No disturbing or intentionally triggering content, including photos of all injuries. No disturbing or intentionally triggering content, including photos of all injuries. This is not a crisis-support space, seek real-world help if needed.
  2. Don't be a jerk
Rude, harassing, and bigoted comments are not allowed. Continued unkind behavior may result in a temporary or permanent ban at mods’ discretion.
  3. Stay Relevant
All posts must clearly ask whether you are overreacting and be about a situation where you could reasonably wonder if you are overreacting. No off-topic content, screenshots of other posts/subs, or meta drama. Posts must be in English.
  4. Disallowed topics: Above reddit’s pay grade
Some topics are above Reddit’s pay grade and will not be permitted as this is not the appropriate place to seek help. This includes domestic violence, child abuse, grooming, sexual abuse, self-harm, and serious mental illness.
  5. Disallowed topics: heated discussion
Discussion of differences in political opinion, religious beliefs, use of slurs, age-gap relationships, discussion of USA / global politics, and accusations of racism will be removed, as comments on these topics tend to quickly turn uncivil.
  6. CARE Mode
At mods' discretion, some posts about highly sensitive topics, such as abuse, sexual assault, abortion, etc. may be placed in "CARE mode." On such posts, only users with +5 karma **in this subreddit** may post; this is done to limit trolling bad-faith comments.
  7. Privacy & Personal Info (Zero Tolerance)
Absolutely no identifying information (names, usernames, locations, workplaces, phone numbers, emails, or social links), including screenshots with visible names, handles, or profile pictures. Posting videos of any kind is not allowed. Posts must be fully anonymized or will be removed.
  8. No Sexual / Exploitative Content (Zero Tolerance)

  9. Karma farming, ragebait, and AI-generated posts
Spam, reposts, karma farming, ragebait, shitposts, self-promotion, and suspected AI-generated content will be removed.
  10. Update post requirements
Updates may only be posted if the original post has not been locked or removed by mods. The update must include a substantial change to the situation, and continue to ask if you are overreacting.
  11. Moderator Discretion
Moderators may remove or lock any content at their discretion to maintain subreddit quality and safety.

What the written rules don't show

  • Unpublished minimums. Many communities remove posts from new or low-karma accounts through AutoModerator settings that are not on the rules page, often before a moderator sees them.
  • Reddit's own filters. Reddit's site-wide spam filters can remove posts from accounts that mostly share links to their own site, in any community.
  • The community's norms. Many communities see themselves as peers, not an audience: post where you already take part, and make the post worth reading without the link.

Let your AI read the rules before it posts.

ThreadFox reads a community's current rules, writes a post that fits them, posts once with Reddit's Brand affiliate tag and checks it stayed up. The free ThreadFox Lite reads rules too.
