All 10 rules of r/AustralianStartups
  1. Must be Startup related
A startup is a scalable business venture designed to solve a problem and achieve rapid growth through a validated, repeatable business model. In contrast, an app built in a couple of weeks or less is currently just a software product or prototype that lacks the organisational structure, funding, and market validation required to be considered a functioning company. Starting a business or consultancy does not meet this subs scope nor do FOSS git repos.
  2. Must be Australian
Startup must be an Australian business.
  3. Be nice to one another.
Remember the human behind the screen. Treat each other with respect.
  4. Link Posts Must Include Context
If you post a link you must include a brief description or summary explaining its relevance. Link posts without context may be removed.
  5. No Solicitation, Flooding or Spam.
Share what you are working on, but don't post about it every day. Limit to once a week at most. Do not offer services to people on their posts or comments. Do not request DMs.
  6. No Ageism, Racism, Sexism
We're all here to share and learn.
  7. No Market Research or Surveys
No market research or surveying is allowed. Our community is small but we are here to discuss our startups and provide feedback to each other.
  8. No "Free" Apps or "FOSS" repos
That's great that you are making stuff to share with the world! This is not the place for it, look into other subreddits like r/sideprojects or r/selfhosted
  9. No Soliciting DMs or off Reddit/Discord chats
Do not solicit DMs, this is spammer behaviour 101. Do not solicit messages off this subreddit or our discord. If you want to meet other Founders, use either our megathread or Discord.
  10. Moderator Discretion & Edge Cases
While our rules cover the most common issues, no rulebook can anticipate every situation. The moderation team reserves the right to remove content, lock threads, or issue bans at our discretion for behavior or posts that violate the spirit of the community, even if not explicitly prohibited in the written rules.

What the written rules don't show

  • Unpublished minimums. Many communities remove posts from new or low-karma accounts through AutoModerator settings that are not on the rules page, often before a moderator sees them.
  • Reddit's own filters. Reddit's site-wide spam filters can remove posts from accounts that mostly share links to their own site, in any community.
  • The community's norms. Many communities see themselves as peers, not an audience: post where you already take part, and make the post worth reading without the link.
