What this page is

This page quotes r/backpain's rules as ThreadFox read them on 2026-10-10. The quoted text is the community's; the verdict above is our reading of it. Conditions often decide whether a post fits (a required thread, flair, posting day, account age or karma), and r/backpain's current rules on Reddit always win over this page.

Creating a space for people to ask questions about their back pain (whether acute or chronic), giving meaning, and providing hope for those suffering. This is a place that does not tolerate misinformation, outdated notions/ideas, BUT promotes anti-fragility and hope. The human body does heal. The human body can overcome pain. The goal for you is to vent, receive advice on navigating your pain, and leave feeling hopeful instead of weak, lost, fragile or broken.

What its rules say about promotion

Promote Anti-Fragility
Let's promote hope and an anti-fragile mindset. Nocebo (& Fearmongering), like placebo, is something that triggers a nociceptive response (AKA pain response). This can be done through sharing false narratives about the human body which promotes fragility. This can be done through using certain languages that can be harmful because it may leave people feeling fragile and perpetuate hopelessness. This keeps that person in the pain-fear-cycle.
Promoting Passive therapy (& Advertising Products)
Please DOWNVOTE if you see excessive advertising or promoting products that emphasize passive treatments. Evidence shows that while in an ACUTE flare up, products like lumbar roll, brace, soothing balm, posture devices, etc, may be helpful in the short term. BUT IS NOT the solution to re-engaging with life in the long term. The evidence ultimately shows these as unproductive to your long term independence and engagement with a rich and meaningful life.
Services are allowed
We value and understand that people need higher quality access to help, so as of right now services will be allowed. As a result you yourself will need to do more due diligence and become better informed to understand the benefits, but also the short coming of the bias/paradigm that the service promotes when seeking further help.
All 12 rules of r/backpain
  1. Spam
Do NOT repeatedly spam or have a copy & paste comment/post that is irrelevant or generally unhelpful to the discussion or obviously to a product or program. Note: the community at large will need to help identify what is helpful or unhelpful. Please engage with up/down voting or message moderators.
  2. Be Kind & Empathetic
People here are often under tremendous emotional and physical stress. Please be adults and keep the name calling, hurtful language, and other bullshit somewhere else. Posts and comments which display rudeness or hostility will be removed and repeat rudeness will result in a temporary or permanent ban. Discussions and debates are welcome, but do not FIGHT with other posters or mods.
  4. Asking for Medical Advice
Naturally you've come here to receive advice on your back pain. Remember that this is an internet forum. Diagnoses, treatment recommendations, and giving medical advice should only be taken from your medical provider. Therefore, it is up to the user asking for advice to recognize that no user in this forum can offer the same care and any advice received is not considered medical advice.
  5. Spreading Misinformation
It's very easy to hear a plausible explanation of someone's pain, or experience a treatment that helped you with your pain, or even be told about a treatment from a medical provider, so please be very confident about the information you share. If you are not confident in your reasoning, do some research beforehand. If you have resources to share with a claim, please share it.
  6. Creating Drama
DO NOT USE THIS IF YOU DISAGREE WITH A PERSON OR THEY HURT YOUR FEELINGS. Use the downvote button for that. Keeping a low drama environment is very important to us. We want everyone to feel safe here. Unnecessary drama can hinder that. If you see something SERIOUSLY awry, report it and we'll look into it. Do not report arguments where people can't let it go. Please downvote, do not comment, and move on.
  7. Giving Medical Advice
If you have a passion for helping others with their back pain, recognize that giving general advice or advice that is anecdotal is allowed. However, everyone, even if you are a licensed medical provider, please… **do not give recommendations on medications, imaging, procedures, or surgery SOLELY based on MRI findings**. Note: the community at large will need to help remind each other to speak with their medical provider when discussing options. Please engage with up/down votes.
  9. No Surveys / Unapproved Study
No posting surveys or searching for participants is allowed at this time
  10. Drug Seeking
Looking for information on obtaining medications is not allowed.
  11. No Emergencies
If you are experiencing a physical or psychiatric emergency, including thoughts of hurting yourself or others, dial your local equivalent or go to the nearest emergency room. Anyone struggling with their mental or physical health should always SEEK PROFESSIONAL HELP. See r/SuicideWatch for more resources.
  12. Services are allowed
We value and understand that people need higher quality access to help, so as of right now services will be allowed. As a result you yourself will need to do more due diligence and become better informed to understand the benefits, but also the short coming of the bias/paradigm that the service promotes when seeking further help.

What the written rules don't show

  • Unpublished minimums. Many communities remove posts from new or low-karma accounts through AutoModerator settings that are not on the rules page, often before a moderator sees them.
  • Reddit's own filters. Reddit's site-wide spam filters can remove posts from accounts that mostly share links to their own site, in any community.
  • The community's norms. Many communities see themselves as peers, not an audience: post where you already take part, and make the post worth reading without the link.

Let your AI read the rules before it posts.

ThreadFox reads a community's current rules, writes a post that fits them, posts once with Reddit's Brand affiliate tag and checks it stayed up. The free ThreadFox Lite reads rules too.
