What this page is

This page quotes r/Canning's rules as ThreadFox read them on 2026-10-05. The quoted text is the community's; the verdict above is our reading of it. Conditions often decide whether a post fits (a required thread, flair, posting day, account age or karma), and r/Canning's current rules on Reddit always win over this page.

What its rules say about promotion

Limited self-promotion
It is great that you have a blog, youtube channel, instagram page, business, other group or subreddit etc. But this is not the place to promote it. The exception to this rule are the monthly threads for promoting your safe canning related page, business, etc. Please wait for those rather than recommending, linking, commenting etc your own work, group, page, etc. Any additional rare exceptions to this rule must be sought via modmail and receive PRIOR mod team approve before posting/commenting.
Mod Attention Needed
Please use the report function and choose this option to get mod team attention to situations that are escalating and may require mod intervention in the near future. Also, you can use this option if you are unsure if a post or comment is unsafe. is violating rules or promotes harassment, instead of typing "Remove if not allowed" or commenting that the mods should do something about an argument. Our community relies on user reports to help our mod team maintain a safe and harmonious environment.

What its rules say about AI and bots

No low-effort posts/comments
No low-effort posts/comments allowed. This includes reposting of old posts from r/Canning posted as your own content, posts of little-to-no community value, and general shitposting. Text posts should have more than two sentences at the very minimum and media should be of high quality in general. AI generated posts/comments may contain potentially risky and/or inaccurate information and are considered low quality effort on the behalf of the user and will be removed when reported.
All 12 rules of r/Canning
  1. Stay on Topic
Posts on this subreddit must be related to canning. Off topic posts will be removed. If you have questions about whether a work is on topic, please message our mod team.
  2. Be kind
Please be kind to one another. We can discuss and disagree with each other in a civilized way. Rudeness and name calling are never the answer. Please remain civil. Don't attack, harrass, or insult people. No witch-hunting or bullying. If you see something you find offensive, let the mods know. Follow general reddiquette.
  3. Please report unsafe practices

  7. No video recipes
The mods of r/Canning attempt to verify whether or not posted recipes follow scientifically published guidelines. This is difficult to do with "video" style recipes and How-Tos due to their length -- the mods simply don't have time to sit around and watch a bunch of 10 - 20 minute long videos to vet them. Hence video recipes are currently disallowed. Thank-you for your understanding!
  8. No bigotry
We will not tolerate bigotry of any kind, including but not limited to: racism, homophobia, biphobia, and aphobia.
  9. No politics

  12. Photo Description Needed - 12 hours or more
As per the request of the Photo AutoMod (PAM), all posts that contain an image must have a description added. Posts with images that lack a reply to PAM within a reasonable timeframe will regrettably be removed, as we assume you're a bot and won't care. Repeat offenders will get banned so that we can keep our membership clean and full of humans, not toasters. If you have a post removed, please reach out to us via ModMail with your description if you wish to have your post reinstated.

What the written rules don't show

  • Unpublished minimums. Many communities remove posts from new or low-karma accounts through AutoModerator settings that are not on the rules page, often before a moderator sees them.
  • Reddit's own filters. Reddit's site-wide spam filters can remove posts from accounts that mostly share links to their own site, in any community.
  • The community's norms. Many communities see themselves as peers, not an audience: post where you already take part, and make the post worth reading without the link.

Let your AI read the rules before it posts.
