- its rules on Reddit
The mission of /r/Comic_Crits is to provide holistic feedback to comic creators based on the understanding that a comic is not just 'writing plus art', but rather a unique combination of both, bound together with elements of graphic design, layout, timing, 'cinematography,' and more.
All 9 rules of r/comic_crits
- Be civil
**All posts, comments, discussions, etc. should be civil** and focused on the work in question, not on personal/ad hominem implications. Salty language is discouraged, but will be allowed within moderation. - Mark NSFW submissions and comments
This is pretty self-explanatory. If you're linking to a site that has NSFW material or ads, err on the side of caution, *even* if the specific comic you link to is not NSFW. - Site-wide rules apply
This includes the Reddit Content Policy, the Reddit Spam Policy, and in most cases the Reddiquette. * Reddit Content Policy -- https://www.reddit.com/help/contentpolicy * Reddit Spam Policy -- https://www.reddithelp.com/en/categories/rules-reporting/account-and-community-restrictions/what-constitutes-spam-am-i-spammer * Reddiquette -- https://www.reddit.com/wiki/reddiquette - No spam-like behavior
Some posts tread the line between content and spam. For example, Kickstarters can be part of a legitimate comic project, but if you don't participate in the community, and you're just doing a drive-by to ask for money, that looks like spam. To prevent your post from getting removed, indicate in your post title that you are looking for feedback on your work and engage with the feedback you receive. - Avoid aggressive posting
It is helpful to remember that this sub is populated by your peers. Although they may organically become your fans or followers, their role here is to provide constructive criticism as a fellow comic-creator. This is not the appropriate place to ask for "likes" or "follows", or to provide page-by-page updates to your fans. In general, please try to limit your posts to approximately once every two weeks. More information -- https://www.reddit.com/r/comic_crits/wiki/rules/post_frequency. - Provide meaningful feedback
Remember that the purpose of this subreddit is to give constructive criticism, not just blind praise (or insults). Please endeavor to write top-level comments with at least 50-100 characters of content. More information -- https://www.reddit.com/r/comic_crits/wiki/rules/comment_length. - Context required
Context is required for anything other than sequential art. This includes, but is not limited to: single panels, covers, character designs, pin-ups, etc. At minimum, 'Context' should include some information about the setting and genre of your story, and what role your character/technology/landscape/etc plays in the story. More information -- https://www.reddit.com/r/comic_crits/wiki/rules/context. - Participate in the community
Occasionally we get posts saying that a user "wants feedback" or "wants to provide feedback", and asks for private messages (or other off-site chat). This is prohibited for two reasons. 1) The feedback should be exchanged in the post, as that is the purpose of the subreddit. Otherwise, the community is deprived of content and productive discussion. 2) Private messages and off-site chat creates a small but real risk of spamming/phishing, which we don't want to encourage. - Include comic (or link) without checkout barrier
Don't forget to actually post your comic (or a link to it). Links should not require log-in or checkout from your site, even for free, as that is considered a method of harvesting user information. "Major" sites like webtoon or gumroad are currently exempt from this rule.
What the written rules don't show
- Unpublished minimums. Many communities remove posts from new or low-karma accounts through AutoModerator settings that are not on the rules page, often before a moderator sees them.
- Reddit's own filters. Reddit's site-wide spam filters can remove posts from accounts that mostly share links to their own site, in any community.
- The community's norms. Many communities see themselves as peers, not an audience: post where you already take part, and make the post worth reading without the link.
