What this page is

This page quotes r/datasets's rules as ThreadFox read them on 2026-10-12. The quoted text is the community's; the verdict above is our reading of it. Conditions often decide whether a post fits (a required thread, flair, posting day, account age or karma), and r/datasets's current rules on Reddit always win over this page.

Free, for a specific product: a researched Reddit plan by email (communities whose rules fit your post, quoted and dated), or ThreadFox Lite, read-only tools an AI assistant can use to read a community's current rules itself, through your own Chrome (Claude Code: claude mcp add threadfox-lite -- uvx threadfox-lite). For an assistant that also writes and posts within each community's rules, the ThreadFox kit is $49 once.

Want to post here? Get ThreadFox ($49): your AI (Claude Desktop, Claude Code or Codex) reads a community's current rules, writes one post that fits and posts once from your own Chrome. No Claude? We'll post for you ($49 per 30-day campaign). Free: a Reddit launch plan for your product, ThreadFox Lite or the posting checklist by email.

What its rules say about promotion

No Spam/Self-promotion without disclosure
Any links to a site you own/work for is self-promotion. Do not spam these and always add a disclaimer. Read [reddit's self promotion guidelines](https://www.reddit.com/wiki/selfpromotion).
All 8 rules of r/datasets
  1. No Spam/Self-promotion without disclosure
Any links to a site you own/work for is self-promotion. Do not spam these and always add a disclaimer. Read [reddit's self promotion guidelines](https://www.reddit.com/wiki/selfpromotion).
  2. Try to post Original Source
Whenever possible link to the original source of the dataset. Adding mirrors in comments is fine and appreciated, intentionally posting a blog describing a dataset from another website is not.
  3. No Low-Effort Request posts
Any Posts or Comments deemed low effort by Mods or community will be removed. Be descriptive in your titles and use self text posts. If requesting a dataset please search the sub before posting and specify the information you need.
  4. Label all Synthetic/Artificial Datasets
If you are submitting a synthetic/mock dataset (any dataset not produced by actual measurement) please mention it in the title and flair it as such `[Synthetic]`.
  5. Label all Paid Datasets
Any Paid Dataset or Resource must be marked as such in the title with `[PAID]`.
  6. All Surveys must be approved by Mods
All Surveys must be approved by Mods before posting. This is not a subreddit for surveys but we allow them in cases where you also release the data collected. Any surveys which gather identifying information are not allowed.
  7. No sharing/requesting Personally identifiable information (PII)
Do not ask for or post datasets containing full names, email addresses, phone numbers, home or business addresses, identity documents etc unless obtained with clear consent or as an open datasets in public domain.
  8. Search for data here
If you are looking for data related to X do a search for X here. And other synonymous words.

What the written rules don't show

  • Unpublished minimums. Many communities remove posts from new or low-karma accounts through AutoModerator settings that are not on the rules page, often before a moderator sees them.
  • Reddit's own filters. Reddit's site-wide spam filters can remove posts from accounts that mostly share links to their own site, in any community.
  • The community's norms. Many communities see themselves as peers, not an audience: post where you already take part, and make the post worth reading without the link.

Let your AI read the rules before it posts.

ThreadFox reads a community's current rules, writes a post that fits them, posts once with Reddit's Brand affiliate tag and checks it stayed up. The free ThreadFox Lite reads rules too.
