Can you promote on r/deaf?

Self-promotion restricted Its rules restrict self-promotion. Posts that promote your own work are likely to be removed.

What this page is

This page quotes r/deaf's rules as ThreadFox read them on 2026-10-12. The quoted text is the community's; the verdict above is our reading of it. Conditions often decide whether a post fits (a required thread, flair, posting day, account age or karma), and r/deaf's current rules on Reddit always win over this page.

Free, for a specific product: a researched Reddit plan by email (communities whose rules fit your post, quoted and dated), or ThreadFox Lite, read-only tools an AI assistant can use to read a community's current rules itself, through your own Chrome (Claude Code: claude mcp add threadfox-lite -- uvx threadfox-lite). For an assistant that also writes and posts within each community's rules, the ThreadFox kit is $49 once.

Want to post here? Get ThreadFox ($49): your AI (Claude Desktop, Claude Code or Codex) reads a community's current rules, writes one post that fits and posts once from your own Chrome. No Claude? We'll post for you ($49 per 30-day campaign). Free: a Reddit launch plan for your product, ThreadFox Lite or the posting checklist by email.

There are many distinct Deaf communities around the world, which communicate using different sign languages and exhibit different cultural norms. Deaf identity also intersects with other kinds of cultural identity. Deaf culture intersects with nationality, education, race, ethnicity, gender, class, sexual orientation, and other identity markers, leading to a culture that is at once quite small and also tremendously diverse. What its rules say about promotion

No self-promoting or asking for money. -- No buying or selling!
If you are a Deaf artitst and create content, you may on occasion share your deaf-relevant content on this subreddit. No money requests allowed- that means no GoFundMe or Kickstarter. No promotion of your discord channel or Whatsapp group without prior mod approval.
All 12 rules of r/deaf
  1. Research, surveys, etc must be pre-approved by the moderators. Asking for non-medical advice is OK.
Research must be pre-approved, see the pinned thread for more info about this policy. We reserve the right to remove any requests for research participants. This includes people working on their homework and here's why: https://www.reddit.com/r/deaf/comments/8gnx0e/deaf_people_of_reddit_share_a_pic_of_something/dydft14/
  3. No posting about ideas for new technological products that serve the deaf.
Have an idea about a haptic/tactile/speech/signing device/app/product for the deaf? Please read this comment first: https://www.reddit.com/r/deaf/comments/6bdp9q/my_company_is_developing_a_haptic_device_for_the/dhm1o47/
  4. No asking for medical advice
No asking medical advice- ask your doctor instead.
  5. No "how do deaf people think" posts.
Any questions about "deaf inner voice" will be removed. Please check our wiki for an answer on this or search the subreddit.
  6. No "self-pitying" posts.
We reserve the right to remove self-pitying posts. Venting is acceptable, but wishing for self-destruction is not acceptable. Please consult a mental care provider in your area or contact Deaf Counseling Center for help- http://www.deafcounseling.com/approach/
  7. Don't post sign language questions here.
Sign Language questions should be posted in /r/asl, /r/bsl, or /r/linguistics. If you wish to practice your Sign Language and want to video chat, try /r/DeafSkype.
  8. Use the search engine.
Before posting a question, please use the search engine to make sure that it hasn't already been asked. For example, questions about what forms deaf people's thought take in are rather common.
  9. No lipreading requests.
Requests to lipread / speechread will be removed. Your guess is as good as ours as to what they're saying.
  10. Videos must have captions or transcripts.
Videos without subtitles may be removed. If the video is entirely in Sign Language, please post a short Written English summary in the comments for those who don't know Sign Language.
  11. Limit crossposting. No karmafarming or brigading.
  12. Shitpost / Low Effort / Mod's choice.
This rule is a catch-all for shit posts and other forms of suspicious activity entirely at moderator's discretion. Not every post fits neatly in the other 11 rules.

What the written rules don't show

  • Unpublished minimums. Many communities remove posts from new or low-karma accounts through AutoModerator settings that are not on the rules page, often before a moderator sees them.
  • Reddit's own filters. Reddit's site-wide spam filters can remove posts from accounts that mostly share links to their own site, in any community.
  • The community's norms. Many communities see themselves as peers, not an audience: post where you already take part, and make the post worth reading without the link.

Let your AI read the rules before it posts.

ThreadFox reads a community's current rules, writes a post that fits them, posts once with Reddit's Brand affiliate tag and checks it stayed up. The free ThreadFox Lite reads rules too.
