What its rules say about promotion
No Bigotry or Hate Speech
Edgy jokes are fine, but there is zero tolerance for genuine bigotry or hate speech. Jokes that cross into hateful, racist, or discriminatory territory will result in swift and severe consequences. If your behavior gives the impression of promoting hate, expect strict enforcement.
All 15 rules of r/Destiny
- Be Respectful
Respectful debates and disagreements are encouraged, but disrespect or malicious behavior toward others, Destiny, or his guests won't be allowed. Keep discussions civil and avoid personal attacks, name calling, insults, or harassment. You do not have to engage with others but if you do, they have a right to reply. Do not block users in an attempt to get the last word. - No Bigotry or Hate Speech
Edgy jokes are fine, but there is zero tolerance for genuine bigotry or hate speech. Jokes that cross into hateful, racist, or discriminatory territory will result in swift and severe consequences. If your behavior gives the impression of promoting hate, expect strict enforcement. - No Threats or Incitement to Violence
Do not make threats of violence or encourage others to commit acts of violence or terrorism. This includes telling someone to harm themselves or openly wishing harm or violence upon others. Limited exceptions apply, such as supporting one side in a conflict, but any attempts to stretch or misuse these exceptions will not be tolerated and will result in immediate action. Do not glorify violence in any way. - Personal Information and Harassment
Posting someone's personal information (PII) to create harassment or trouble is prohibited. Allowed examples include a congressperson’s state, while disallowed examples include a streamer's phone number or address. If unsure, ask if the PII is necessary to your point. Encouraging user to do activities such as mass reporting, email campaigns, or demeaning others, is also not allowed unless approved by mods as part of a broader campaign. - No Sexual Comments About Others
Making sexual comments about people is not only inappropriate but also isolating. It shifts the focus from individuals’ ideas and personalities to their physical traits, which can make people feel uncomfortable or unwelcome. Please keep discussions centered on the content, not personal appearances or sexuality. - Focus on Arguments, Not Attributes
In all discussions, focus on addressing the actual arguments, not personal attributes. Criticizing someone's ideas is fine, but spamming insults about their appearance or personality, like posting pictures with derogatory comments, is unhelpful. Such behavior damages the quality of discourse and harms the community’s reputation. - No Soapboxing
This sub isn't a platform to lecture people. You can care deeply about a topic without trying to browbeat everyone else over it. Leave the preachy rants, manufactured drama, and over-the-top venting at the door, even if you are being completely sincere. Keep it civil and avoid attacking the sub. Content made just to stir up outrage adds no value and gets deleted. Depending on severity, breaking this rule ranges from a warning to a full ban. - No Outrage Bait
Do not post content designed solely to provoke outrage, inflame emotions, or spread divisiveness. This includes, but is not limited, to misleading titles, cherry-picked information, or sensationalized claims. Posts must contribute meaningfully to discussion and adhere to subreddit guidelines. Violators may be warned, have posts removed, or face a ban. - Do not post about other subreddits.
To prevent brigading and protect the community, sharing links to, or screenshots of, posts or comments from other subreddits is prohibited. Do not name other subreddits or attempt to find a work around to this rule. Just have fun in our subreddit, nobody cares about the others. - Label Content and Source Claims
Always use the required flairs for your posts to ensure proper categorization. If sharing a factual claim, especially regarding something seen on stream or presenting a contrary opinion to those commonly held by the community or Destiny, provide a credible source. This helps maintain clarity and ensures constructive discussions, especially when presenting differing viewpoints. - Social Media Posts vs News
Social media posts (e.g., tweets) must not be used as a substitute for news articles. Posts sharing news should include a credible news article alongside any related tweets. Tweets are only for context or commentary, not standalone news. Posts relying solely on tweets as the source will be removed. Screenshots must include likes, retweets, and impressions. - No NSFW Content
This community is not the place for NSFW images. While references to NSFW content may be acceptable if they are newsworthy or relevant (such as gory images related to ongoing conflicts), posting explicit, pornographic, or adult material is strictly prohibited. Sharing or linking to such content disrupts the purpose of this space and is not appropriate for this community. - No Personal Drama
Conversations should stay relevant and focused on appropriate topics. Posting personal information about someone to ridicule or attack them is not allowed. Before sharing anything personal, consider if you would want that information discussed about yourself. Respect others' privacy and keep the community focused on meaningful, constructive discussions. No Nathan posting. - No Drama After 3-Days
Drama posts are allowed only within 3 days of the event that started the drama. The timer begins at the initial occurrence, not when it is first posted. Substantial updates may reset the timer at moderators’ discretion. Destiny mentioning the drama on stream does not reset the timer. The first or best in-depth analysis post after the window closes will become a megathread, and similar posts will be removed. Late drama posts will also be removed. - GTAB: Community Led Moderation
Some trusted community members have access to a moderation tool called !GTAB, which may trigger a temporary 3-day ban on the user they reply to. How it works: If a trusted member replies to your comment or post with !GTAB, the bot will issue a 3-day temporary ban. This tool is used sparingly to quickly address trolling, harassment, or other disruptive behavior. It is available to a limited number of users, and anyone equipped with charges can use the !objection command to reverse the ban.
What the written rules don't show
- Unpublished minimums. Many communities remove posts from new or low-karma accounts through AutoModerator settings that are not on the rules page, often before a moderator sees them.
- Reddit's own filters. Reddit's site-wide spam filters can remove posts from accounts that mostly share links to their own site, in any community.
- The community's norms. Many communities see themselves as peers, not an audience: post where you already take part, and make the post worth reading without the link.
