Don't Spam, Self-Promote, or Advertise
Posting your own tracks, albums, or personal work is only allowed in the Feedback Thread, and only as works in progress. Finished or released material does not belong there either. Mixing, mastering, and similar service offers or requests go in the Marketplace Thread. Promoting Discord servers, mixtapes, and livestreams is not allowed.
Promoting Software You've Made
Plugins, software, or platforms you've made go in the Marketplace Thread, with one exception: genuinely free and open source projects (e.g. hosted on GitHub, no paid tier, no sign-up wall, no data collection). Freemium tools, free trials, "one feature free" versions, and anything requiring an account or harvesting user data go in the Marketplace Thread.
No Vibe-Coded Slop
Apps, plugins, or services built primarily with AI coding assistants and pushed out without meaningful development, testing, or support are not welcome, regardless of price. If your project is a real piece of software you stand behind, it goes in the Marketplace Thread.
No Surveys, Polls, or Research Recruitment
No survey links, no Google Forms, no "doing research for my thesis, please fill out this." Same goes for recruitment for studies, beta tests, or user interviews. If it's part of a paid or commercial project, it goes in the Marketplace Thread.

  1. Be Respectful
    All posts, threads, comments, and PMs are expected to be civil, even when there are disagreements. No flame wars, disrespect, condescension based on level of experience, or tactless posts stereotyping any group of people. If you disagree with something, make your case politely. Repeated or egregious offenses will be countered with a ban.
  2. Stay Relevant
    Submit only content and discussion specifically relevant to music production. If your thread is only tangentially related, it's probably off-topic. Vague or unclear threads ("does anyone else...?", "any suggestions for...?") may be removed. Use the search bar first.
  3. Post Belongs in Regular Thread
    Regular threads are listed in the sidebar. Your own music (works in progress only) goes in the Feedback Thread. Products or services go in the Marketplace Thread. Collaboration calls go in the Collaboration Thread. General questions go in the There Are No Stupid Questions Thread. Finished or released material does not belong anywhere on the sub.
  4. Sharing Free Stuff
    Sharing things you've made (samples, presets, etc.) has to be genuinely free. Use direct links like Google Drive or Dropbox. No web store links, no sign-ups, no email collection, no "free with account" gates. If users have to hand over data to get it, it belongs in the Marketplace Thread. Giveaway and remix contests also belong in the Marketplace Thread.

  7. No AI-Generated Music or AI Hype
    This sub is for humans making music. AI as a production tool (mastering, stem separation, sample generation inside a DAW, etc.) is fine to discuss. Not allowed: AI-generated tracks (Suno, Udio, etc.), posts about broader AI discourse, hype, or doom, "is AI going to replace producers" threads. Keep AI talk to its role as a tool. Everything else is off-topic.

  9. No Youtube Spamming
    If you're a youtuber, be careful not to spam. You need to be an active Redditor on the sub: comment on others' threads and post content not made by you, roughly 10 comments and links for every video you post. Don't post more than a few times a month. Youtube shorts are not allowed. Only quality, helpful content. No track breakdowns or adverts.
  10. No Piracy
    Advocating, asking for, or giving advice on how to pirate is prohibited. Linking to piracy-centric subs is also prohibited.
  11. No Drama Posts
    Not the place for posts about people stealing songs, ghost writer accusations, or producer beef. This is a community for the technical and creative aspects of production, not drama. If your post is calling someone out, it's probably not appropriate here.
  12. No Motivational Posts
    Lower-effort "motivational" threads asking how to get through an artistic slump may be removed because they've been answered many times. Use the search or check r/getmotivated.
  13. No Surveys, Polls, or Research Recruitment

  14. No Memes or Low-Effort Content
    Keep it productive, intelligent, intelligible, and constructive.
  15. No Reposting After Removal
    If your post is removed, read the reason. You can reformat to fit the rules or post elsewhere. Reposting the same thing will get you banned.
