What this page is
This page quotes r/excel's rules as ThreadFox read them on 2026-10-06. The quoted text is the community's; the verdict above is our reading of it. Conditions often decide whether a post fits (a required thread, flair, posting day, account age or karma), and r/excel's current rules on Reddit always win over this page.

What its rules say about promotion
No gig or job advertisements
This is not a gig or job board sub. There are other subs specifically for that on Reddit.
Follow Reddit rules for self-promotion and spam
Follow Reddit guidelines relating to [self-promotion](https://www.reddit.com/wiki/selfpromotion) and [spam](https://www.reddithelp.com/en/categories/rules-reporting/account-and-community-restrictions/what-constitutes-spam-am-i-spammer). Specifically, 10% or less of your posting and conversation should link to your own content

No AI slop or lazy "just use AI" advice
We remove AI-generated posts and comments which you have not shown you have tested and agreed with. We also delete substance-free comments that simply recommend the respondent use AI.
All 12 rules of r/excel
- Post Titles must follow our Submission Rules
Posters should ensure their post titles follow our [Submission Rules](/r/excel/wiki/submission-rules/). Posts which do not meet these rules may be removed at any time by the moderation team. - Post Content must follow our Submission Rules
Posters should ensure their post content follows our [Submission Rules](/r/excel/wiki/submission-rules/). Posts which do not meet these rules may be removed at any time by the moderation team. - Posts must be related to MS Excel or other spreadsheet software
Content with an indirect relationship to Excel must be a text/self post and must provide meaningful discussion of Excel, its implementation or a viable alternative. - Set appropriate post flair
When posting questions, you don't need to select a flair -- the sub will default it to 'unsolved'. For other types of posts, use an appropriate flair. - No link or image posts. Text posts only.
We only allow Reddit Text posts (Not Image or Link posts). Depending on Reddit platform used you can insert an image into a Text post, otherwise include and reference an image in a comment to your post. Alternatively use a 3rd party image site (imgur.com or similar) and use the URL/s in your post. The multitude of platforms catered for on Reddit give different results for different post types. Link posts, Image posts and Video posts are removed by the AutoModerator. - Don't post asking how to learn Excel or VBA or similar
If you want to learn to use Excel, [visit the sub's Wiki](/r/excel/wiki/learningmegathread#wiki_welcome_to_the_learning_megathread_wiki_page.21) where we have collated lots of resources to learn Excel or VBA. - Close your post by replying to the answer with "solution verified"
To close your post, you should reply "Solution Verified" to the user(s) who gave an answer that helped you. A bot awards a point to that person; it also changes the post's flair to Solved. You can reply solution verified to more than one person if you feel they all deserve a point. If you prefer to close the post without awarding points, change the flair to Solved. - No personal insults/attacks
Keep discourse civil. - No NSFW/offensive content
There is no reason for offensive/NSFW content in this sub. Any posts or comments containing it will be removed. - No AI slop or lazy "just use AI" advice

What the written rules don't show
- Unpublished minimums. Many communities remove posts from new or low-karma accounts through AutoModerator settings that are not on the rules page, often before a moderator sees them.
- Reddit's own filters. Reddit's site-wide spam filters can remove posts from accounts that mostly share links to their own site, in any community.
- The community's norms. Many communities see themselves as peers, not an audience: post where you already take part, and make the post worth reading without the link.
Let your AI read the rules before it posts.
ThreadFox reads a community's current rules, writes a post that fits them, posts once with Reddit's Brand affiliate tag and checks it stayed up. The free ThreadFox Lite reads rules too.
