What its rules say about promotion
Hate-Speech, Xenophobia, Anti-Immigration, etc.
While this subreddit welcomes a wide spectrum of views on immigration, it is pro-immigration and pro-legalization. Submissions that promote or are obviously biased by racism or xenophobia; or that promote hate or fear-mongering against immigrants; or that promote anti-immigration sentiment in general will be removed. This includes posts and comments criticizing undocumented immigrants who attempt to gain documentation through legal channels. Repeat offenders will be banned.
Blogspam/Advertising
Submissions and comments which are obviously adverts, especially those for attorneys, will be removed as spam. Even links to blog articles on attorney websites will be removed. If the article you are posting is a short article summarizing a larger article on another site, please post the link to the larger source article.
What its rules say about AI and bots
AI Use
We do not allow the use of AI-generated comments and posts, due to the high rate of misinformation/hallucination and the sub's goal of fostering human communication. For the same reasons, we do not allow users recommending the use of AI to answer immigration questions.
All 13 rules of r/immigration
- Remember the human
Every person has innate value. Every person has a unique story. Immigration laws are complex, and not every person's journey fits neatly into a predefined step-by-step guide to getting a visa. This does not make them lesser people. Peoples' lives are complex, and not every person qualifies for the same opportunities. This does not make them lesser people. Any user who ridicules another for asking a question will be banned. Any user who makes light of an immigrant’s suffering will be banned. - Hate-Speech, Xenophobia, Anti-Immigration, etc.

Immigration can cause heated debates. Please do your best to remain civil. If a user is giving incorrect information, politely correct them. Remember: attack the argument, not the person. Please refrain from personal attacks. If you have a problem with a particular user, [please message the moderators](https://www.reddit.com/message/compose?to=/r/immigration) instead of "calling out" the user in the comments. - Blogspam/Advertising

If the article you are posting is a short article summarizing a larger article on another site, please post the link to the larger source article. - Editorialized Headline
Do not editorialize headlines. Where possible, please use the headline from the article's webpage and write your thoughts in the comments section to encourage discussion. - Off-Topic Post
Submissions which are not obviously related to the topic of immigration will be removed. - Asking for Money
To combat scams, any and all posts asking for money will be removed. - Asking How to Break the Law
Do not ask for advice on how to break the law. Questions about whether something is legal or what the punishment is for something are okay. However, posts which seem to ask for a "how to" to break the law or how to evade law enforcement will be removed. - Advising Obvious Illegal Activity
Do not advise people to break the law. Some laws can be interpreted in different ways, but some things are obvious: telling people to lie to immigration officials, pay someone to marry them, cross the border without inspection, or other obviously illegal activities will result in a ban. - Surveys and Interview Requests
Surveys and interview requests are not allowed. - Obviously Bad or Incorrect Advice
Advice that is bad or incorrect, such as being based on incorrect information, incorrect understanding of the law, or being inapplicable to the original poster's situation. Bad or incorrect advice is worse than not giving any advice at all. Users who encounter such advice can end up taking decisions that cause harm to themselves or others. - Misinformation
There's a lot of misinformation about immigration and immigrants, both from left and right wing news sources. Examples of such misinformation include misleading or incorrect statistics, quoting people out of context, or straight up lies. Identifying misinformation is difficult, so any reports for this rule must include links or comments with sources refuting the misinformation. - AI Use
We do not allow the use of AI-generated comments and posts, due to the high rate of misinformation/hallucination and the sub's goal of fostering human communication. For the same reasons, we do not allow users recommending the use of AI to answer immigration questions.
What the written rules don't show
- Unpublished minimums. Many communities remove posts from new or low-karma accounts through AutoModerator settings that are not on the rules page, often before a moderator sees them.
- Reddit's own filters. Reddit's site-wide spam filters can remove posts from accounts that mostly share links to their own site, in any community.
- The community's norms. Many communities see themselves as peers, not an audience: post where you already take part, and make the post worth reading without the link.
Let your AI read the rules before it posts.
