What this page is
This page quotes r/Metrology's rules as ThreadFox read them on 2026-10-05. The quoted text is the community's; the verdict above is our reading of it. Conditions often decide whether a post fits (a required thread, flair, posting day, account age or karma), and r/Metrology's current rules on Reddit always win over this page.
Free, for a specific product: a researched Reddit plan by email (communities whose rules fit your post, quoted and dated), or ThreadFox Lite, read-only tools an AI assistant can use to read a community's current rules itself, through your own Chrome (Claude Code: claude mcp add threadfox-lite -- uvx threadfox-lite). For an assistant that also writes and posts within each community's rules, the ThreadFox kit is $49 once.
Want to post here? Get ThreadFox ($49): your AI (Claude Desktop, Claude Code or Codex) reads a community's current rules, writes one post that fits and posts once from your own Chrome. No Claude? We'll post for you ($99 per 30-day campaign). Free: a Reddit launch plan for your product, ThreadFox Lite or the posting checklist by email.

Metrology is the science of measurement. This is where the people who do it for a living compare notes. CMM programmers, calibration technicians, quality engineers, machinists, students, and the vendors who supply them. Bring prints, GD&T arguments, software problems, and equipment questions. Vendors are welcome when they say who they work for. There is a monthly thread for services, sales, training, and jobs.
What its rules say about promotion
Vendors Welcome: Disclose Your Affiliation
Vendors, service providers, and anyone employed by a metrology company are welcome here. You can answer technical questions, support your own products, and take part in any discussion. Disclose your affiliation when you discuss your company's products or a competitor's. Message the mods for Vendor flair. Not allowed: undisclosed affiliation, fake customer recommendations, unsolicited DMs or lead generation, and ads outside the monthly megathread. Violations may lead to removal or a ban.
No Self-Promotion or Spam
Do not use the community as a platform for personal gain. That includes repeatedly linking your own blog, site, channel, or product. Sharing something you built or wrote is fine when it is on topic, you say it is yours, and it is not the only thing you ever post here. Jobs, services, sales, and training belong in the monthly megathread, which is pinned to the top of the sub. All posts must be related to metrology.
Disclose Research, Surveys and Product Discovery
If you are here to gather information rather than take part, say so in the post itself. That covers market research, customer discovery for something you are building, academic surveys, and journalism. Say who you are, what the answers are for, and who benefits from them. Disclosed research is welcome and people here are generous with it. Undisclosed research dressed up as a casual question is the most common form of soft promotion we get.
What its rules say about AI and bots
Original and Attributed Content
Credit your sources. Do not paste material from elsewhere as though it is your own. Automated and mass produced posting is not allowed. That covers bot accounts, content farming, and posts published in bulk to build karma or drive traffic. Using a tool to help you write is not against the rules. Posting a confident, unverified answer to a technical question is a problem whatever wrote it, because someone may cut metal based on it.
All 9 rules of r/Metrology
- Respect and Civility
Disrespectful comments or posts based on race, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, disability, or any other personal characteristic will not be tolerated. Engage courteously with others in the community. Personal attacks, insults, or threats are prohibited. - Vendors Welcome: Disclose Your Affiliation

Jobs, services, sales, and training belong in the monthly megathread, which is pinned to the top of the sub. All posts must be related to metrology. - No NSFW (Not Safe For Work) or Politics
No sexual or graphic content. This is a professional and educational community. Ordinary shop floor language is fine. Slurs, abuse, and harassment aimed at people are not, and Rule 1 covers those. Leave politics out unless the topic is directly metrology related, such as standards bodies, trade regulation, tariffs on equipment, or export control. - Low Effort and Duplicate Posts
Give people enough to work with. Where it applies, include the feature or measurement, the standard and its edition, the equipment, the software and version, and a photo or sketch of the print. Do not post the same question twice. If nobody answered, edit the original and add detail. Posts with no context, and replies that add nothing to the discussion, may be removed. - Original and Attributed Content

If you see posts or comments that violate these rules, use the report button. This helps moderators maintain the quality of the subreddit. Respect decisions made by moderators. If you disagree with a moderation action, contact the moderators privately rather than discussing it within threads. - No Confidential or Export Controlled Material
Check the drawing before you post it. Remove or blur title blocks, customer names, part and serial numbers, contract numbers, and barcodes. Do not post ITAR or export controlled drawings, CUI, or anything covered by an NDA. Do not post inspection programs or reports belonging to your employer or their customer. Almost every question here can be answered from a sketch or a cropped detail. If you are unsure, crop harder. - Disclose Research, Surveys and Product Discovery
If you are here to gather information rather than take part, say so in the post itself. That covers market research, customer discovery for something you are building, academic surveys, and journalism. Say who you are, what the answers are for, and who benefits from them. What the written rules don't show
- Unpublished minimums. Many communities remove posts from new or low-karma accounts through AutoModerator settings that are not on the rules page, often before a moderator sees them.
- Reddit's own filters. Reddit's site-wide spam filters can remove posts from accounts that mostly share links to their own site, in any community.
- The community's norms. Many communities see themselves as peers, not an audience: post where you already take part, and make the post worth reading without the link.
Let your AI read the rules before it posts.
ThreadFox reads a community's current rules, writes a post that fits them, posts once with Reddit's Brand affiliate tag and checks it stayed up. The free ThreadFox Lite reads rules too.
