Can you promote on r/Payroll?

Self-promotion restricted Its rules restrict self-promotion. Posts that promote your own work are likely to be removed.

What this page is

This page quotes r/Payroll's rules as ThreadFox read them on 2026-10-13. The quoted text is the community's; the verdict above is our reading of it. Conditions often decide whether a post fits (a required thread, flair, posting day, account age or karma), and r/Payroll's current rules on Reddit always win over this page.

Free, for a specific product: a researched Reddit plan by email (communities whose rules fit your post, quoted and dated), or ThreadFox Lite, read-only tools an AI assistant can use to read a community's current rules itself, through your own Chrome (Claude Code: claude mcp add threadfox-lite -- uvx threadfox-lite). For an assistant that also writes and posts within each community's rules, the ThreadFox kit is $49 once.

Want to post here? Get ThreadFox ($49): your AI (Claude Desktop, Claude Code or Codex) reads a community's current rules, writes one post that fits and posts once from your own Chrome. No Claude? We'll post for you ($49 per 30-day campaign). Free: a Reddit launch plan for your product, ThreadFox Lite or the posting checklist by email.

What its rules say about promotion

No Data-Mining, Advertising or Self Promotion
Recommendations of other products or services in comments will be reviewed for topicality and general appropriateness. The mods have the discretion to remove any such recommendation. Advertising a product or service in which the poster is personally involved (e.g., owns/works for the product/company) is strictly prohibited. This includes advertising job postings or soliciting for a job. We’re not LinkedIn.
All 9 rules of r/Payroll
  1. /r/Payroll is for payroll, HR and financial professionals
Although /r/Payroll is open to everyone, we strive to focus on the needs of industry professionals. We do not provide career or salary advice, unless it is guidance related to the HR/Payroll/Finance career path.
  3. Illegal advice is not allowed.
Illegal advice is never allowed, for any reason, in any circumstance.
  4. Do Not Solicit For Private Messages
Do not make posts where you indicate to users to send you direct messages rather than reply publicly to the post. Do not post comments saying you DMed a poster, all discussions should take place on the thread. We reserve the right to enforce a hard ban on profiles doing so, even if it’s just once.
  5. Posters must provide their country & state if soliciting advice
Posters must provide their country & state if soliciting advice - please don't ask a question without the relative context that requires commenters to ask for more info before they can reasonably give an answer.
  6. No Questions About Early Pay Deposits
If your paydate is every Friday, but you have a banking app that allows your paycheck to hit early - none of us have any idea why your paycheck isn’t in your account two days before official paydate. Payday hasn’t happened yet in this scenario so there is zero issue!
  7. The Internet Doesn’t Know When You’ll Get Paid
The Internet Doesn’t Know When You’ll Get Paid or if your paycheck is correct based on your post. We are strangers. You need to contact your company’s payroll department directly for an answer.
  8. Karma is Needed for Payroll Recommendations
Due to the number of sales/bots profiles: on threads requesting payroll/Hr software recommendations, we retain the right to remove your comments if we find you have a brand new account with no karma.
  9. No New Overtime Laws Posting
We are still working through the complexity of the new ruling and given that every pay statement is created by each company individually with their own abbreviations, it is near impossible for us to advise posters. Please reach out to your payroll department directly.

What the written rules don't show

  • Unpublished minimums. Many communities remove posts from new or low-karma accounts through AutoModerator settings that are not on the rules page, often before a moderator sees them.
  • Reddit's own filters. Reddit's site-wide spam filters can remove posts from accounts that mostly share links to their own site, in any community.
  • The community's norms. Many communities see themselves as peers, not an audience: post where you already take part, and make the post worth reading without the link.

Let your AI read the rules before it posts.

ThreadFox reads a community's current rules, writes a post that fits them, posts once with Reddit's Brand affiliate tag and checks it stayed up. The free ThreadFox Lite reads rules too.
