What its rules say about promotion

No icky sales pitches or promotions
This isn't a place for coupons, crowdfunding campaigns or to raise money for your online startup. It's cool if you have an idea or even a business you want to promote, but be genuine about it, not just a salesperson who stops by once with a coupon code and then leaves. Yes, it tough to define "icky" so this might be controversial at times, but we're gonna delete posts that feel off to the tone of this subreddit.
All 12 rules of r/princegeorge
  1. Read the rules and don't try and get around them
**[Full rules here](https://www.reddit.com/r/princegeorge/wiki/rules/)** Ignorance of the rules is not an excuse so if you’re going to be upset about getting banned, read them before you post. The rules are an expression of the nature of the community we want to cultivate, not a way to find loopholes to get around them. In other words, you should follow the spirit of the rules, not just the nature of them.
  2. Be kind: Insults, fighting and dehumanizing language
As a rule of thumb: if you wouldn't say it to someone's face, don't say it here (or, if you are particularly confrontational, don't even say that). No verbal attacks, no insults, no hate speech. No racist, sexist, ableist, homophobic and transphobic content Attacks on people’s profession, religion, choice of transportation and politics are also subject to deletion. This also includes to dehumanizing language around people who use drugs and those who are homeless.
  3. Posts about Prince George
This is a subreddit about Prince George, B.C. It's not about Canada, it's not about British Columbia, and it's especially not about the party politics at either of those levels. Politics is OK if you follow the other rules, but keep it local: ie local candidates, local implications, not general discussions about province/country-wide issues, questions or concerns. Please also be aware that memes and low-quality content are subject to removal (see rule six).
  4. Don't hate on the city
Yes, we are aware of the reputation the city has. No, that’s not an excuse to dump on it – even if you live here, are from here or visited once in the 1980s and didn’t like the way it smelled. Congratulations, that means you shouldn’t miss things if you get banned. The city isn't perfect, and it's ok to talk about that here, but be reasonable: it isn't a dump, the worst place in Canada, or the armpit of anything. If all you're doing is talking trash, head to the subreddit for a city you like.
  5. Search/check the sticky before posting common questions
We have a megathread devoted to questions about moving to Prince George, as well as visiting, things to do, and different neighbourhoods. Read it before posting. Also check the search to see if someone else has recently asked for recommendations on the best sandwich or barber or autobody repair shop before doing the same.
  6. No vigilantism and no villainizing homelessness or addiction
Posts and comments that encourage, advocate or simply suggest that violence/death would be justified in retaliation or as a consequence of someone else’s actions are not allowed. This includes posts lumping all people who are dealing with homelessness or addictions as people who are committing crimes, or suggesting that people in these situations are deserving of harm as a result. If you are a victim of crime, you can ask for generalized advice on what actions you can take.
  7. Not a place to call out individuals or businesses
You may have had a bad interaction with a business or individual. But you might also just be a competitor or someone with an axe to grind. If you have specific questions about how to handle a problem, feel free to ask, but please avoid identifying details. When discussing politicians or other public figures, focus on policies/actions not individuals – ie. disliking this particular vote or decision, not “they’re a moron”. See rule number one.
  8. Duplicate posts/Low-quality content/Memes
Meme-type content is likely to be removed. This includes complaints about how bad the drivers are (every city thinks they have the worst ones) or reposting popular image/question posts from other local subreddits and putting them here – there’s a decent chance it’s already been done. Self-posts or question posts that can easily be answered by searching or lack any specific content also likely to be removed.
  10. Fundraisers and surveys
here are lots of good causes but it’s also tough to verify their legitimacy. As a result, links to GoFundMe are as likely to be removed as not – you’d be better off having it vetted through a news source and then posting an article about it back here. Campaigns from recognized charitable organisations or non-profits are allowed, so long as there’s a specific reason behind them. As for surveys – let’s keep it to ones for/about Prince George specifically.
  11. Posts about crime or missing persons
Posts that claim to have witnessed a crime, accusing others of a crime or sharing information about a publicly-known crime must include a police report, article or other substantial evidence in order to be considered for approval. If you are unable to provide this but still feel the desire to make a post, please contact the mods first. Likewise missing persons cases: Police and/or media reports must be included.
  12. Title your posts appropriately/Link to the source
When submitting a link to an outside story use a link post. Do not use a self-post with the link contained within the comments. Please do not use link shorteners or redirects, including Google link URLs or web archiving services, or links to other social media sites that then link to a website. Do not alter headlines.

What the written rules don't show

  • Unpublished minimums. Many communities remove posts from new or low-karma accounts through AutoModerator settings that are not on the rules page, often before a moderator sees them.
  • Reddit's own filters. Reddit's site-wide spam filters can remove posts from accounts that mostly share links to their own site, in any community.
  • The community's norms. Many communities see themselves as peers, not an audience: post where you already take part, and make the post worth reading without the link.

Let your AI read the rules before it posts.
