What this page is

This page quotes r/puzzles's rules as ThreadFox read them on 2026-10-12. The quoted text is the community's; the verdict above is our reading of it. Conditions often decide whether a post fits (a required thread, flair, posting day, account age or karma), and r/puzzles's current rules on Reddit always win over this page.

Free, for a specific product: a researched Reddit plan by email (communities whose rules fit your post, quoted and dated), or ThreadFox Lite, read-only tools an AI assistant can use to read a community's current rules itself, through your own Chrome (Claude Code: claude mcp add threadfox-lite -- uvx threadfox-lite). For an assistant that also writes and posts within each community's rules, the ThreadFox kit is $49 once.

Want to post here? Get ThreadFox ($49): your AI (Claude Desktop, Claude Code or Codex) reads a community's current rules, writes one post that fits and posts once from your own Chrome. No Claude? We'll post for you ($49 per 30-day campaign). Free: a Reddit launch plan for your product, ThreadFox Lite or the posting checklist by email.

What its rules say about promotion

No spam. Self-promotion is allowed only in the Promo Weekly post stickied to the top of the thread.
Links to apps, blogs, and most videos belong in the Promo Weekly post. Logic and/or math-based puzzles that fit a text or image format are generally allowed. Posts that make sense as a video or website link are allowed with moderator approval, so please ask us first. Generally, videos should promote discussion, and websites should provide features that are useful to solving the puzzle.
All 6 rules of r/puzzles
  1. No spam. Self-promotion is allowed only in the Promo Weekly post stickied to the top of the thread.
Links to apps, blogs, and most videos belong in the Promo Weekly post. Logic and/or math-based puzzles that fit a text or image format are generally allowed. Generally, videos should promote discussion, and websites should provide features that are useful to solving the puzzle.
  2. All guesses must be spoiler-tagged. Top level comments are auto removed unless spoiler-tagged
When guessing the answer to a puzzle, you need to use a spoiler tag so that everyone has a chance to solve the puzzle themselves. Top level comments are automatically removed unless they include a spoiler tag or have "Discussion" or "Question" in them Spoiler tag: \>!spoiler here\!< displays as >!spoiler here!< Redesign/desktop spoiler tag: https://i.imgur.com/SWHRR9M.jpg Avoid white space at the \>! beginning!\< or >\!end !\< of your spoiler tag. White space breaks it for many users
  3. Puzzles should have an objective answer
This subreddit is for puzzles solvable through deduction, inference, or pattern recognition, such as logic puzzles, crossword clues, and hunt-style puzzles, and not those requiring exhaustive trial and error. Algebra puzzles and number sequences will be removed. Places for other types of puzzles are: - /r/riddles - /r/rebus - /r/cubers - /r/jigsawpuzzles - /r/watersortpuzzles - /r/constructedadventures
  4. Use a descriptive title
Titles should be descriptive, not just "Check out this puzzle" or "Puzzles only geniuses can solve." Ideally, try to include the type of puzzle, and perhaps some unique name for it "Halloween-themed crossword puzzle" is better than "Here's a puzzle"
  5. No puzzles from ongoing contests
Please do not post puzzles from active contests, which includes daily puzzles. If you see a puzzle from a contest, please report it. Breaking this rule may result in an immediate ban.
  6. Credit puzzle creators
If you did not make the puzzle, please try your best to credit the original source. If you are not sure of it, or have personally received the puzzle from someone, please indicate that. This rule applies more to puzzles you found online.

What the written rules don't show

  • Unpublished minimums. Many communities remove posts from new or low-karma accounts through AutoModerator settings that are not on the rules page, often before a moderator sees them.
  • Reddit's own filters. Reddit's site-wide spam filters can remove posts from accounts that mostly share links to their own site, in any community.
  • The community's norms. Many communities see themselves as peers, not an audience: post where you already take part, and make the post worth reading without the link.

Let your AI read the rules before it posts.

ThreadFox reads a community's current rules, writes a post that fits them, posts once with Reddit's Brand affiliate tag and checks it stayed up. The free ThreadFox Lite reads rules too.
