What its rules say about promotion

No Crowdsourcing Ideas/Premises, Homework Requests, Script Cattle Calling or Script Marketing
- Ideas, premises & development are your responsibility. Posts crowdsourcing/requesting consensus, school project help or general development brainstorming are subject to removal - No script promotion. **This is not a marketplace**. - No cattle calls for script submissions or project commissions. Production entities should read scripts and reach out to writers, or go through industry channels. This is to protect new writers underselling their existing IP, or putting it in legal hazard.
No Unauthorized or AI (Vibecoded) Software Promotion/Research
**No unauthorized software may be promoted to or researched using the r/screenwriting membership.** - We are not currently listing any new screenwriting software in our resource wiki, as our software needs are met. - Planning/organizational software that is "screenwriting adjacent" can be found and posted in screenwriting adjacent communities. - AI "vibecoded" software is forbidden. **Modmail requests to promote it may be treated as a banworthy offence.**
Don't Post Personal Blogs, Websites, Software or Unapproved Self-Promotion.
No personal blogs*, portfolio websites, personal business websites, [vibe-coded software](https://www.reddit.com/r/Screenwriting/comments/1sby3gk/please_stop_submitting_your_vibecoded_software/) or self promotion. Please keep those links on your own profile. This includes all product sales, fundraising, or donation requests. Self-made podcasts or educational videos are allowed using the flairs Member Video or Member Podcast. *exceptions for established community partners only.

There is a firm ban on contests or paid screenwriting services. Free offers must get prior consent of the mods; "free" offers funnelling users to paid services or advertising are prohibited. No market research may be conducted without consent.

  1. Do Not Personally Attack Community Members; Respect Privacy, Be Encouraging and Civil
    Racist, sexist, homophobic, transphobic and other violently derogatory personal attacks on other redditors will result in an automatic, permanent ban. Constructive criticism is welcomed, but be mindful in how you deliver it. Undue discouragement/trashing is not permitted. Pointless bickering will result in comment removal and potential bans. Depending on the severity, personal attacks will receive anything from a warning to a temporary ban or a permanent ban at the mod team’s discretion.
  2. Feature, Short and Episode/Pilot Scripts Only
    This subreddit is for sharing and critique of traditional screenwriting forms only. Verticals, plays, documentaries, comic books/graphic novels, video game scripts and other non-narrative forms are prohibited.
  3. Questions Must Demonstrate Prior Effort/Research
    Before posting a question, [review our FAQ & Resources](https://www.reddit.com/r/Screenwriting/wiki/index/) Posts lacking research, low in value or effort are defined as: broadly general inquiries demonstrating little prior effort or research; posts intended to farm karma, or lacking creative merit.   4. No Plagiarism or AI Chatter. No Sharing of Confidential Material or Sale of Copyrighted Material
    Do not post/submit material that you do not own without citing the source. - No AI content or speculative discussion beyond relevant industry news items [More on AI Policy](https://www.reddit.com/r/Screenwriting/comments/1kby1hz/reminder_ai_discussioncontent_posts_are_prohibited/) - No sale of copyrighted materials (scripts, development materials, etc) on this subreddit regardless of ownership. - No sharing of confidential screenplay material or users' screenplay material without permission.
  5. Include Pages in Requests for Targeted Support/Feedback
    Posts made requesting help or advice on most in-text concerns (rewrites, style changes, scene work, tone, specific formatting adjustments, etc) or any other support for your extant material should include a **minimum of 3 script pages.** In other words, **you must post the material you’re requesting help with, not just a description of your issue**. If your material is a fragment shorter than 3 pages, please still include pages preceding or following that fragment for context.

  7. No Off-Topic Posts, Trolls, Shitposts, Spam, Fanfic or Unsupported Film/TV Critiques|No Ban Evasion
    Off-topic includes but is not limited to: memes, novels, comics, short stories, other non-script formats. Fanfic scripts are defined as existing IP outside of spec episode scripts (existing TV series episodes written for sample purposes) or adaptations of public domain. No film or TV critiques/complaints/discussion that do not include scripted material in the discussion.

  11. Posts About Paid Feedback Must Include Script and Evaluations in Wednesday Thread
    Now on [Black List Wednesday Thread](https://www.reddit.com/r/Screenwriting/wiki/meta/weeklythreads) Per community preference, posts about evaluations received from a paid service (the Blcklst, for example) must also include screenplay and the feedback received so that the community can have a value discussion rather than being a sounding board.
  12. Formatted Scripts Only |Perms Enabled| Observe Page Minimums | No Personal Films Posted w/o Script
    Screenplays must be: - Properly formatted in screenplay software (see the resources wiki for options) - Linked in google drive, dropbox or some other common cloud-based sharing platform. - Saved as a PDF - Sharing enabled with full permissions - Feedback requests must be a minimum of 3 pages. Sharing your personal film projects is permitted, but you must include a linked script in the body of the post or in the comments.
  13. Observe Dedicated Threads for Loglines, Collab Requests, Writing Groups, Swaps, Blcklst, Etc

  14. Provide Descriptive/Informative Titles for Posts & Use Flairs
    When submitting any post, please provide a descriptive and informative title to aid readers in finding it. No title only or link only posts. Excepting member videos, posts must include text. Please apply appropriate flair to each post you make. Non-flaired posts will likely be removed.
  15. Use Report and Modmail to Report Post Violations or Misconduct
    We do not view every single post or comment in this community, so we rely on you to let us know if something is wrong using the [report feature](https://support.reddithelp.com/hc/en-us/articles/360058309512-How-do-I-report-a-post-or-comment) on comments and posts.
