What this page is

This page quotes r/SelfHosting's rules as ThreadFox read them on 2026-10-06. The quoted text is the community's; the verdict above is our reading of it. Conditions often decide whether a post fits (a required thread, flair, posting day, account age or karma), and r/SelfHosting's current rules on Reddit always win over this page.

Free, for a specific product: a researched Reddit plan by email (communities whose rules fit your post, quoted and dated), or ThreadFox Lite, read-only tools an AI assistant can use to read a community's current rules itself, through your own Chrome (Claude Code: claude mcp add threadfox-lite -- uvx threadfox-lite). For an assistant that also writes and posts within each community's rules, the ThreadFox kit is $49 once.

Want to post here? Get ThreadFox ($49): your AI (Claude Desktop, Claude Code or Codex) reads a community's current rules, writes one post that fits and posts once from your own Chrome. No Claude? We'll post for you ($99 per 30-day campaign). Free: a Reddit launch plan for your product, ThreadFox Lite or the posting checklist by email.

  5. Post Relevance
Discussion about your self-hosting setup, configurations, equipment, features, networking, applications, other stuff that you self-host, questions you may have, discussion about applying/gaining your skill within or related to the idea of self-hosting are all acceptable reasons to post. Unrelated posts will be removed by moderator discretion.

We do not allow links/posts that include any sort of referral link. If you think you have an exception please ask the mods first.
  7. Special Requests
If you believe you are about to post something that violates a rule, please ask for permission first. There is a chance that it will be allowed/approved but you must ask for permission first, not forgiveness.
  8. Discussion Scope
Selfhosting may also be discussed in the broader context of hosting. Thus, relevant discussions of hosting in general are permitted, including homelabs, colocation, VPS hosting, dedicated servers, cloud providers, and managed infrastructure.

What the written rules don't show

  • Unpublished minimums. Many communities remove posts from new or low-karma accounts through AutoModerator settings that are not on the rules page, often before a moderator sees them.
  • Reddit's own filters. Reddit's site-wide spam filters can remove posts from accounts that mostly share links to their own site, in any community.
  • The community's norms. Many communities see themselves as peers, not an audience: post where you already take part, and make the post worth reading without the link.

Let your AI read the rules before it posts.

ThreadFox reads a community's current rules, writes a post that fits them, posts once with Reddit's Brand affiliate tag and checks it stayed up. The free ThreadFox Lite reads rules too.
