Can you promote on r/shortcuts?

Self-promotion restricted Its rules restrict self-promotion. Posts that promote your own work are likely to be removed.

What this page is

This page quotes r/shortcuts's rules as ThreadFox read them on 2026-10-12. The quoted text is the community's; the verdict above is our reading of it. Conditions often decide whether a post fits (a required thread, flair, posting day, account age or karma), and r/shortcuts's current rules on Reddit always win over this page.

Free, for a specific product: a researched Reddit plan by email (communities whose rules fit your post, quoted and dated), or ThreadFox Lite, read-only tools an AI assistant can use to read a community's current rules itself, through your own Chrome (Claude Code: claude mcp add threadfox-lite -- uvx threadfox-lite). For an assistant that also writes and posts within each community's rules, the ThreadFox kit is $49 once.

Want to post here? Get ThreadFox ($49): your AI (Claude Desktop, Claude Code or Codex) reads a community's current rules, writes one post that fits and posts once from your own Chrome. No Claude? We'll post for you ($49 per 30-day campaign). Free: a Reddit launch plan for your product, ThreadFox Lite or the posting checklist by email.

This subreddit is devoted to Shortcuts. Shortcuts is an Apple app for automation on iOS, iPadOS, and macOS.

What its rules say about promotion

Share your own work or original link
When sharing a shortcut with someone, make sure it is your own work or if it is someone else's work, share the original shortcut link or relevant shortcut sharing site link for users to get the original copy from the source. Doing this eliminates possibility of getting a modified shortcut that is not the intent of the original author.
All 12 rules of r/shortcuts
  1. Stay related to Shortcuts.
Content without any significant commentary relevant to the Shortcuts app and related features may be removed.
  2. Don't link to illegally hosted content.
Do not include links in your posts or shortcuts to places that violate copyright law, such as torrent sites or free streaming sites.
  3. Use Imgur, Gfycat, or Reddit to host media.
You should only use [Imgur](https://imgur.com/), [Gfycat](https://gfycat.com/), or Reddit to host media, such as screenshots, GIFs, and videos. See rules #5 and #7 for information on how to share links to shortcuts.
  4. Be civil.
If what you want to say is not civil, please do not post it at all. Along with this, please keep your posts and comments appropriate for all levels and types of users.
  5. Shortcut posts must include a shortcut link.
All posts marked with the 'shortcut' flair must have a link. This can be the URL of a link post, or in the body of a text post. Comments are allowed as well, but the first two options are preferred. See rule #7 for information on which types of shortcut links are allowed.
  6. Shortcut posts must fully describe the shortcut and include a legible, meaningful title
All posts marked with the 'shortcut' flair must have an explanation of the shared shortcut. This can be in the body of a text post or in a comment on a link post. Shortcuts that maliciously conceal the purpose of high-risk actions (such as send message) violate this rule.
  7. Shortcuts should be shared through a trusted site and be original
To ensure safety and authenticity of shared shortcuts, we ask that all shared shortcuts use an [iCloud link](https://support.apple.com/guide/shortcuts/share-shortcuts-apdf01f8c054/ios) or [RoutineHub link](http://routinehub.co/) or [Shortcuty](https://browse.shortcuty.app) Make sure to share the original link if it is not your own shortcut you are sharing. Regenerating a link makes it hard to know if it was modified in some way.
  8. Use post flair properly
When setting your post flair, consider the options before setting it: Read all about the usage of post flairs in this post. https://www.reddit.com/r/shortcuts/s/jaoAcW5V6r
  10. Don't Post Teasers
If you're developing a shortcut, post it when it's ready, nobody really wants to see a post teasing a shortcut.
  11. Crosspost requires approval
Crossposts are automatically filtered for review by the mod team.
  12. Use descriptive titles when asking for help
When seeking help, please title the post with what you’re needing help with so that other users that may be looking for the same help you’re seeking can search the sub and find your post.

What the written rules don't show

  • Unpublished minimums. Many communities remove posts from new or low-karma accounts through AutoModerator settings that are not on the rules page, often before a moderator sees them.
  • Reddit's own filters. Reddit's site-wide spam filters can remove posts from accounts that mostly share links to their own site, in any community.
  • The community's norms. Many communities see themselves as peers, not an audience: post where you already take part, and make the post worth reading without the link.

Let your AI read the rules before it posts.

ThreadFox reads a community's current rules, writes a post that fits them, posts once with Reddit's Brand affiliate tag and checks it stayed up. The free ThreadFox Lite reads rules too.
