What its rules say about promotion

Correct Flair Tags Required
Correct flair is required on all posts "Feedback Request" is for sharing work-in-progress. Audio/video is required. "Collaboration Request" is for looking for musical or lyrical partners. You can post a song if it's relevant to the collaboration request. "Question/Discussion" is for all other general conversations. It should NOT be used to share songs. "Self-Promotion" is used to share completed songs with prior mod approval. Otherwise, these songs go in the Weekly Self-Promo Thread.
Community Advertising
We do not allow any advertising of your community, which includes subreddits, discord servers, twitch streams, YouTube channels, other forums, social media groups, mailing lists, etc. If you would like to connect with the folks in this subreddit, [contact the mod team](https://www.reddit.com/message/compose?to=/r/songwriting) first and we can discuss adding your community to our verified network.
No Spam
For the purposes of this community, spam includes: -repeatedly posting songs/comments without engaging with the responses -advertising a paid service/product -posting the same song/comment across numerous different subs -farming for clicks/follows/views/likes **If you have created/developed a FREE product that you believe might benefit the community, please message the mod team first before posting**

  3. 5 Comment Karma Required For Feedback Requests
    We require at least 5 "comment karma" (upvotes from other users on your comments) before allowing users to request feedback. This is simply to ensure that all community members are giving feedback as well as requesting. If you are a new member, please begin by providing feedback on a few other songs before requesting your own.
  4. No Low-Effort Posts / "How Do I Write A Song?"
    Variations on "How Do I Write A Song?" have been asked and answered many times on this subreddit. As of 2024, new posts which only ask "How Do I Write A Song" or "How Do I Get Started" will be removed. If you are a beginner looking to get started, please check out the Beginner's Guide (bookmarked on sidebar), our comprehensive FAQ, or search for older threads on this topic -- then feel free to ask more specific, particular questions.
  5. No Lyric-Only Posts
    We want you to bring your words and music together. That is why lyric-only posts need to contain musical elements, such as a chord progression, a melody, a beat, etc. Lyric-Only Posts can go into the dedicated weekly thread pinned at the top of the subreddit.
  6. No "Is Using AI Cheating?" Posts (Asked & Answered)
    The broad question of ethics surrounding the use of AI tools is a thorny question, one that has been debated to death over the last few years, and generally ends in acrimony. If you are looking for other people's opinions, please consult the FAQs.(https://reddit.com/r/Songwriting/w/faqs). Questions which address AI use in a genuinely new way may be occasionally permitted, but "Is AI cheating?" is now considered "Asked & Answered."
  7. No Covers / Remixes
    Covers are not allowed in this community. This include reharmonization or rewriting lyrics.

  9. No AI-Generated Music
    This community has a zero-tolerance rule for the use of AI in music, which includes sharing audio generated with Suno/Udio, lyrics generated by LLMs like ChatGPT/Claude/Grok, and recommending the use of such programs to others. As the goal of this subreddit is to encourage songwriters of all skill levels to share human-made musical art and develop their creative faculties, AI runs counter to this end.
  10. No Social Media
    We don't allow links to social media profiles / content from social media (eg. tiktok videos).
  11. No Links Without Context/Conversation
    If you're sharing a video or article as a resource, please get the conversation started -- tell us what is useful, noteworthy, or why we should care. Video links without any context will be removed.
  12. No "Am I The Only One?" Posts
    No "Am I The Only One?"-style posts. There are eight billion people on Earth, and whatever you're doing, you're not the only one. Find a more interesting way to get the conversation started.
