What its rules say about promotion
No off-topic posts, memes, gossip, or format hate.
Keep discussion about Team Fortress 2 gameplay, strategy, and competition. Off-topic posts, memes, gossip, and antagonistic format hate will be deleted. When posting here you should make sure your content is about TF2's gameplay, and try to make your content high quality and promote discussion. Antagonizing people who play particular formats or deriding other formats without being constructive is not allowed. Avoid memes & gossip and posts about non-TF2 things.
No theoretical change threads without substance.
No threads suggesting or promoting discussion of theorycraft changes towards the game without substance. Put work into your idea - goals, comparisons, class synergies, combinations, pub & competitive applications, and hard numbers are all useful in showing you have a complete well thought out idea. Example - https://www.reddit.com/r/truetf2/comments/79d4n9/subreddit_metaexample_theoretical_change_natascha/ /r/tf2weaponideas is a better fit for low effort suggestions.
No advertising with intent to sell services.
Do not advertise with the intent to sell servers or other services for monetary value or other goods. (even in your flair) Do not plug your content channels. (Twitch/YouTube/other sites like them - you can do this in your flair however) High quality services, charity related events, and league & LAN related content are okay.

- No off-topic posts, memes, gossip, or format hate.
- No general questions.
Threads such as "How do I get better at <class>?" or "What are some tips for <class>?" are not allowed, please be specific and more in-depth. A thread shouldn't be answerable by "practice more". The problem with these kind of posts is the advice you get in turn will also be general & the amount of discussion to be had will be very limited. You need to help us help you by being more specific about what you want to discuss or what you specifically need help with. - No tech help, scripting, or HUD editing posts.
Tech help, scripting, or HUD editing posts aren't allowed. Please check out /r/tf2techsupport, /r/tf2scripts or /r/tf2scripthelp, and /r/tf2huds respectively for these topics instead. - No Looking for Team/Players/Scrim/etc posts.
If you are looking for a team, players to join your team, scrims, ringers, or anything else that's cool - but this isn't the place to do that. Looking for a Team or Players? - Consult your respective league forums or check r/f2LFT Looking for a Scrim? - Network with other team leaders around your division and look for Steam Groups to aid this! Looking for Ringers? - Network with other players around your division. - No theoretical change threads without substance.
- No cheating/hacking posts unless newsworthy.
Discussion about cheating or hacking is not allowed, including calling out players, asking for help in clearing your name, mentioning specific hacks by name, etc. Only exception is newsworthy stuff involving well known players. You can read more why here: https://www.reddit.com/r/truetf2/comments/3z3jai/new_ruling_about_cheating_threads/ Newsworthy threads will be moderated heavily for flaming/harassment/spam/non-constructive input. - No "list your opinion", "what are your thoughts on X", or "would you rather" style threads.
While resulting in discussion, these threads mostly are poor discussion wherein posters list their opinion and don't interact much with each other or the topic. Spend more time to formulate discussion topics for people to interact with. - No match spoilers in titles until 1 day later.
No match spoilers as to who won/lost in thread titles for any official league/tournament/LAN match until 24 hours have passed. - No advertising with intent to sell services.
Do not advertise with the intent to sell servers or other services for monetary value or other goods. (even in your flair) Do not plug your content channels. (Twitch/YouTube/other sites like them - you can do this in your flair however) High quality services, charity related events, and league & LAN related content are okay. - No frag movies or SFM content.
No frag movies or SFM content. - No link posts w/o quality discussion points.
High quality links include casts, POVs, guides, news, and community events. These are allowed freely as long as effort is put into them. Low quality links (such as montages, SFM movies, videos that don't fit into the High Quality Link types) are only allowed if they are used to provide more clarity/imagery to an on-going discussion. Do not use videos of discussion as the backbone of your thread without including a write-up of the videos main points so people can discuss without clicking it. - No low quality content.
Any post deemed to be low effort or low quality is subject to removal. Your post should drive meaningful discussion. A thread should not be answerable simply by "yes" or "no". - Observe reddiquette and don't harass others.
Reddiquette is found here - http://www.reddit.com/wiki/reddiquette Posting to harass, flame, or release personal information of other people is strictly disallowed and will result in bans based on severity. Serious harassment will lead to the Reddit admins being involved. - No whining about thread content
If you think a thread is low-effort or otherwise rule-breaking, please report the thread rather than posting in the thread, as all this serves to do is start arguments, and potentially ruin threads that *could* be fine.
What the written rules don't show
- Unpublished minimums. Many communities remove posts from new or low-karma accounts through AutoModerator settings that are not on the rules page, often before a moderator sees them.
- Reddit's own filters. Reddit's site-wide spam filters can remove posts from accounts that mostly share links to their own site, in any community.
- The community's norms. Many communities see themselves as peers, not an audience: post where you already take part, and make the post worth reading without the link.
Let your AI read the rules before it posts.
ThreadFox reads a community's current rules, writes a post that fits them, posts once with Reddit's Brand affiliate tag and checks it stayed up. The free ThreadFox Lite reads rules too.
