Can you promote on r/uscg?
No rule mentions promotion None of its rules mentions self-promotion. That is not permission: read every rule, say plainly that it's yours, and make the post useful on its own.
What this page is
This page quotes r/uscg's rules as ThreadFox read them on 2026-10-12. The quoted text is the community's; the verdict above is our reading of it. Conditions often decide whether a post fits (a required thread, flair, posting day, account age or karma), and r/uscg's current rules on Reddit always win over this page.
Free, for a specific product: a researched Reddit plan by email (communities whose rules fit your post, quoted and dated), or ThreadFox Lite, read-only tools an AI assistant can use to read a community's current rules itself, through your own Chrome (Claude Code: claude mcp add threadfox-lite -- uvx threadfox-lite). For an assistant that also writes and posts within each community's rules, the ThreadFox kit is $49 once.
Want to post here? Get ThreadFox ($49): your AI (Claude Desktop, Claude Code or Codex) reads a community's current rules, writes one post that fits and posts once from your own Chrome. No Claude? We'll post for you ($49 per 30-day campaign). Free: a Reddit launch plan for your product, ThreadFox Lite or the posting checklist by email.

- its rules on Reddit
A place where Coasties, current and former, freely and respectfully discuss various topics of interest. We also strive to help each other out by providing each other resources. Future Coasties or anyone interested in the Coast Guard are welcome as well! Just keep in mind that this is an un-official USCG Reddit page and is not a recruiting subreddit. If you do have a question about joining, ask your question in the "Bi-Weekly Recruiting Thread".
All 10 rules of r/uscg
- Recruiting Questions
Please post recruiting/joining questions to the weekly recruiting thread. Posting recruiting questions elsewhere will cause your post to be deleted by the auto-mod or a moderator. Search the forum, threads and posted WiKi's, FAQ, etc. before asking a question. - No Medical Questions
We cannot help you with medical questions for joining the CG. Talk with a recruiter. - Advising Fraudulent Enlistment
This rule is to protect new recruits from the poor advise of lying or omitting truths to their recruiter. Post violating this rule will be removed by the moderators. - Vague/Broad/Generalized Question
You should ask a direct question after researching rather than posting a vague/broad question that will generate repeat answers and multiple trail off questions. Be specific. - Current Info/Knowledge of Programs
When giving replies do your best to give accurate and current information. If you are not 100% sure about an answer but feel it will still help the conversation; then make it clear that you do not know the answer. We do not want to have threads full of misleading information. That leads to confusion and further unnecessary questions. Warnings will be given. If postings continue threads will be locked and violator may receive a short ban. - Posts/Comments against leadership
Posts/comments that speak against leadership will be removed. This forum isn't the place to speak ill of leadership. Constructive debates are just fine. We want to avoid leader bashing. - No rude or offensive language.
Slurs, bigoted language, intentional flamebaiting or other such comments are not allowed. Respect your shipmates and the public. Bans will be immediate. Trolls will be banned. - Classified/OPSEC Information
Classified/FOUO/OPSEC information is not allowed on our forum. A report will be filed with CGCIRT and the holder of the information when possible. Violators will be banned. - Posting PII
posting personal identifying information is against Coast Guard Policy and even against Reddit's doxing policy. Please be mindful of the content of your post and remember your training. Post violating this rule will be logged, removed and reported to CGCIRT. - Boot Camp, A-School, Shipping Dates
Posts asking for A-School dates or boot camp dates are not allowed. Posts with ship dates are not allowed.
What the written rules don't show
- Unpublished minimums. Many communities remove posts from new or low-karma accounts through AutoModerator settings that are not on the rules page, often before a moderator sees them.
- Reddit's own filters. Reddit's site-wide spam filters can remove posts from accounts that mostly share links to their own site, in any community.
- The community's norms. Many communities see themselves as peers, not an audience: post where you already take part, and make the post worth reading without the link.
Let your AI read the rules before it posts.
ThreadFox reads a community's current rules, writes a post that fits them, posts once with Reddit's Brand affiliate tag and checks it stayed up. The free ThreadFox Lite reads rules too.
