What this page is
This page quotes r/amateurradio's rules as ThreadFox read them on 2026-10-12. The quoted text is the community's; the verdict above is our reading of it. Conditions often decide whether a post fits (a required thread, flair, posting day, account age or karma), and r/amateurradio's current rules on Reddit always win over this page.
Free, for a specific product: a researched Reddit plan by email (communities whose rules fit your post, quoted and dated), or ThreadFox Lite, read-only tools an AI assistant can use to read a community's current rules itself, through your own Chrome (Claude Code: claude mcp add threadfox-lite -- uvx threadfox-lite). - its rules on Reddit
Welcome to Reddit's own amateur (ham) radio club. If you are wondering what Amateur Radio is about, it's basically a two way radio service where licensed operators throughout the world experiment and communicate with each other on frequencies reserved for license holders. All topics relating to the hobby are welcome here, from purchasing and building equipment, to operating techniques and activities, and everything in between.
What its rules say about promotion
Do not spam / Do not post AI generated content
Many subscribers have their own websites or channels and it's okay to submit content from those sites occasionally, as long as it is related to the topic, and as long as you remain active in the sub. Users who only post links to promote their websites/channels and provide no other contribution to the sub will have their posts removed and flagged as spam. We generally use Reddit's definition of spam. AI-generated content is considered spam.
Keep it legal
Posts that appear to be promoting blatantly malicious activity, illegal activity, and/or violating the FCC rules **may** be removed at the moderators' discretion. Topics that might include illegal elements are not prohibited, but blatantly illegal/rule breaking content or activities are strongly discouraged. Discussion on modifying equipment to transmit on frequencies outside of the allocated amateur radio frequencies is not allowed.
Please respect others/vistors
There are often many people who are visitors of the sub and want to learn more about amateur radio. They are not amateur radio operators. Generic questions will often be asked. There will also be questions that might not exactly pertain to amateur radio or they are loosely related. We ask that you respect everyone in a matter that you would like to be treated. The goal of the sub is to promote amateur radio in a positive matter. Please be respectful to all.

Users may assign their own flair, but it is not required. Flair should be applicable to the subreddit or to the hobby at large. Examples of acceptable flair include, but are not limited to, callsign, license class, or grid square. It should not be vulgar or offensive. URLs are not permitted. If you use a callsign, it must be your own or one you are a trustee of. - Do not share personal information
Some users may use their callsign as their username or as flair. Even though most user callsign information is public record, we request that you respect their privacy and avoid posting their personal information. There are users who do not wish to have their callsign associated with their username. Please respect their choice. If a callsign or information about a callsign is posted to incite or encourage harassment, the thread and/or post will be removed and possible ban. sdfsdfs - Follow Reddiquette

If you are posting a meme, please assign the "MEME" Flair to the thread. This allows users to filter them if they choose. - Moderators have the final say
Even though we strive to be as fair as possible, it is not possible to please all of the users, all of the time. Your opinions will be heard and considered, but in the end the final decision rests with the moderators. Moderators will not suppress discussion of controversial topics, and will only act to enforce the above rules. - No posts or comments on US politics, global politics, military, paramil or militia-related topics
This is a subreddit dedicated to the hobby of amateur radio. Unless a topic is directly related to amateur radio, posts or comments that are politically motivated will not be allowed. Allowed political topics are limited to regulatory actions (FCC, Ofcom, etc.) or other government actions that directly affect amateur radio. There are thousands of other subreddits dedicated to political and military topics. Please use those instead.
What the written rules don't show
- Unpublished minimums. Many communities remove posts from new or low-karma accounts through AutoModerator settings that are not on the rules page, often before a moderator sees them.
- Reddit's own filters. Reddit's site-wide spam filters can remove posts from accounts that mostly share links to their own site, in any community.
- The community's norms. Many communities see themselves as peers, not an audience: post where you already take part, and make the post worth reading without the link.
