What this page is

This page quotes r/atheism's rules as ThreadFox read them on 2026-10-10. The quoted text is the community's; the verdict above is our reading of it. Conditions often decide whether a post fits (a required thread, flair, posting day, account age or karma), and r/atheism's current rules on Reddit always win over this page.

All 11 rules of r/atheism
  1. No Trolling
No Trolling: This includes the repeated use of slurs to incite or instigate (i.e. trolling) and applies to all forms of user content, including the user's name. Comments that are "in character" for /r/magicskyfairy or other "circlejerk" subreddits and circlejerk catch phrases will be removed. Examples include "this is euphoric!," "tips fedora," "so brave/edgy,". Please review our guidelines page for further info - https://www.reddit.com/r/atheism/wiki/guidelines
  2. Personal Attacks or Flaming
Keep things civil. Avoid fighting words and personal attacks. (applies to all forms of user content, including the user's name.) Please review our guidelines page for further info - https://www.reddit.com/r/atheism/wiki/guidelines
  3. Off Topic
Submissions completely unrelated to atheism, agnosticism and secular living may be removed. Trigger Warning: This is a community in favor of scientific understanding, equality for all & positive secularism, also we oppose religious influence and over-reach. Things such as LGBT, Science News, politics, & similar discussions are often of interest to atheists & are considered relevant to this subreddit. View our guidelines page for further info - https://www.reddit.com/r/atheism/wiki/guidelines
  4. Image not submitted correctly.
All image posts must be submitted as self posts. (This includes links to image only content on a 3rd party site.) View our guidelines page for further info - https://www.reddit.com/r/atheism/wiki/guidelines
  5. Spam
Usually when done in excess. (ie. more than 1 in 10 posts/comments) View our guidelines page for further info - https://www.reddit.com/r/atheism/wiki/guidelines
  6. Low-Effort Posts
Posts which only contain a title are not allowed and will be removed. Posts should contain significant content or discussion relevant to the title. Simply adding filler text to the body does not meet this requirement. Please see the [Low Effort portion of the FAQ](https://www.reddit.com/r/atheism/wiki/faq#wiki_6._what_are_.22low-effort_posts.3F.22) for specific information about low-effort posts. These rules apply to both link and self-posts.
  7. No Proselytizing or Preaching
Posts that appear to be for the purpose of proselytizing will be removed. Proselytizing includes things like "sharing the good news," warning atheists of hell, and unsolicited AMAs relating to major religions. See the [Proselytizing portion of the FAQ](https://www.reddit.com/r/atheism/wiki/faq#wiki_what_is_.22proselytizing.3F.22) for additional information. Commenters who repeatedly proselytize in their comments may have posts removed and may be banned.
  8. Reddit Rule: Harassment or Bigotry
Reddit rule: Harassment or Bigotry Harassment and bigotry are strictly prohibited, but any and all curse words are permitted. (applies to all forms of user content, including the user's name.) View our guidelines page for further info - https://www.reddit.com/r/atheism/wiki/guidelines
  9. Reddit rule: Brigading
If you're linked via a meta subreddit don't vote. If you're just going in there to shitpost or get into an argument, don't comment. If you actually have something that is worthwhile to contribute and isn't trying to shove your viewpoint down everyone's throats, think first before commenting. If you legitimately find the thread on your own (you can be subscribed to both meta subs and a sub that's been linked to without getting nuked for brigading) please feel free to comment and vote.
  10. No Artificial Intelligence
This sub is for people talking to people. It is not about bots talking to bots or people responding to bots or bots responding to people. Content that is generated in whole or in part with AI is not allowed. Citing any AI-generated content as though it were an academic source or an authority is not allowed. Linking to what appears to be AI-generated content is also not allowed. AI ***may*** be used to translate. The post must also paste the original language content below the translation.
  11. No Holy Wars
"Holy warriors" and new accounts that spawn or engage in creating content that is deemed to be derogatory information or propaganda from supporters of one religion against another religion are not allowed. The mods will act with prejudice against such attempts and the accounts responsible. In doing so, the mods are not acting as shills or protectors of any religion. The mods simply refuse to allow the sub to be used by either side as a battleground in religious wars.

What the written rules don't show

  • Unpublished minimums. Many communities remove posts from new or low-karma accounts through AutoModerator settings that are not on the rules page, often before a moderator sees them.
  • Reddit's own filters. Reddit's site-wide spam filters can remove posts from accounts that mostly share links to their own site, in any community.
  • The community's norms. Many communities see themselves as peers, not an audience: post where you already take part, and make the post worth reading without the link.

Let your AI read the rules before it posts.

ThreadFox reads a community's current rules, writes a post that fits them, posts once with Reddit's Brand affiliate tag and checks it stayed up. The free ThreadFox Lite reads rules too.
