What this page is
This page quotes r/bioinformatics's rules as ThreadFox read them on 2026-10-10. The quoted text is the community's; the verdict above is our reading of it. Conditions often decide whether a post fits (a required thread, flair, posting day, account age or karma), and r/bioinformatics's current rules on Reddit always win over this page.
Free, for a specific product: a researched Reddit plan by email (communities whose rules fit your post, quoted and dated), or ThreadFox Lite, read-only tools an AI assistant can use to read a community's current rules itself, through your own Chrome (Claude Code: claude mcp add threadfox-lite -- uvx threadfox-lite). For an assistant that also writes and posts within each community's rules, the ThreadFox kit is $49 once.
Want to post here? Get ThreadFox ($49): your AI (Claude Desktop, Claude Code or Codex) reads a community's current rules, writes one post that fits and posts once from your own Chrome. No Claude? We'll post for you ($99 per 30-day campaign). Free: a Reddit launch plan for your product, ThreadFox Lite or the posting checklist by email.

What its rules say about promotion
Advertise your bioinformatics tool in r/bioinformaticstools/
We don't have the time or desire to evaluate every new tool that comes out, but if you want to share it, we suggest r/bioinformaticstools/
No Spam (for profit advertisements)
We don't support advertising here. If you are benefiting materially from posting here, then you've come to the wrong place to post it.
No anonymous information gathering or market research.
Full transparency is required. If you're gathering, you must disclose exactly how you will use the information and who will have access to it. Market research for commercial projects is not appreciated.
No Youtube posts
We don't allow Youtube posts. They're too much work to check each one, and most of what we see here is self-promotional. Sorry.
Please don't advertise yourself
There are more people looking for volunteer positions (or even paid and consulting positions) than there are positions to be filled. Please don't post your CV/resume hoping that one will come to you. We will remove your post.
What its rules say about AI and bots
This is a No-AI zone. AI posts, comments and users will be removed and banned.
This is a community of users. We don't need AI generated answers - if someone is posting here, it's presumable because they are looking for engagement with a human.
All 14 rules of r/bioinformatics
- You must read the "Before you post" post before posting.
We've tried to answer the most common questions, and explain which ones should be avoided in our "before you post" post, which is pinned to the top. Please read this before you post, or your post will be removed. This explicitly includes posts that ask "How do I get into bioinformatics?" - Career Questions go to r/bioinformaticscareers
Questions about which school, job, salary, how to get into the field or courses to take should be directed to the friendly community at r/bioinformaticscareers - Advertise your bioinformatics tool in r/bioinformaticstools/

We don't support advertising here. If you are benefiting materially from posting here, then you've come to the wrong place to post it. - No anonymous information gathering or market research.
Full transparency is required. If you're gathering, you must disclose exactly how you will use the information and who will have access to it. Market research for commercial projects is not appreciated. - No soliciting work that *might* be paid.
This precludes any work "on spec". If you want work done, pay to have it done - we don't accept postings or "competitions" to pay the best solution. - Title must reflect the question
The title of your post must give enough information that people won't have to click on it just to find out what topic you're raising. - No Youtube posts
We don't allow Youtube posts. They're too much work to check each one, and most of what we see here is self-promotional. Sorry. - Journal Articles
When posting a journal article, we suggest including a submission statement or an easily understood summary of the article with your submission. This can be short or long, but it would be nice to have some context for why someone might be interested in the article. - Please don't advertise yourself
There are more people looking for volunteer positions (or even paid and consulting positions) than there are positions to be filled. Please don't post your CV/resume hoping that one will come to you. We will remove your post. - I will solve your problems!
You are a comp sci/AI/statistics student and will be able to solve all of our problems! Just tell us where to point your algorithm, or explain what the hardest problems in bioinformatics are! If only things were that easy. The community already knows the tools you know, and has been working on these things for years. - Low effort post/comment
Asking for information that is either easily found on the web, or asking questions without doing any of the bare minimum work to find out the answer can be a reason for post removal. - Posts must be in English
Moderators can't enforce rules if they don't understand the language, so lets just all agree to use english. If you have a good reason to post in another language, let us know. Otherwise, google translate is your friend.
What the written rules don't show
- Unpublished minimums. Many communities remove posts from new or low-karma accounts through AutoModerator settings that are not on the rules page, often before a moderator sees them.
- Reddit's own filters. Reddit's site-wide spam filters can remove posts from accounts that mostly share links to their own site, in any community.
- The community's norms. Many communities see themselves as peers, not an audience: post where you already take part, and make the post worth reading without the link.
Let your AI read the rules before it posts.
ThreadFox reads a community's current rules, writes a post that fits them, posts once with Reddit's Brand affiliate tag and checks it stayed up. The free ThreadFox Lite reads rules too.
