AMAs, surveys, hiring and referrals
All of the below require prior mod approval: * AMAs (ask me anything). Approved AMAs can be stickied temporarily upon request. * Surveys. * Hiring requests. This only applies when a company, startup or individual intends to use this subreddit to solicit people for a job in THEIR company. * Referrals (both requests and offers) In most cases, you will be requested to provide some proof of who you are. This is only to protect the community, and you won't need to disclose such evidence publicly.
Spam
Spam and promotional content aren't allowed in this subreddit. Note that it is usually OK to post (and we appreciate!) useful links that would benefit the community, but if the purpose of your post is to solicit the community rather than contributing to it, then it will most likely be removed (this includes direct and indirect promotion, including "addicles", framing something helpful that's actually an ad). Accounts that are used to solely promote will be banned permanently.
AI Large Language Models (LLMs)
Content generated from AI LLMs is not allowed. Other posts around AI are permitted especially from an academic/technical POC. Please be mindful the other rules still apply, so these would not be allowed: - Low quality and repetitive questions (using it for homework, impacts to the job market) - Doomposting about the impact to computer science, job market, etc - Self-promotion of wrapper projects is limited to the project thread Mod discretion may also apply where posts become flame wars.

Personal projects all go to https://www.reddit.com/r/csMajors/comments/1mcg0rc/project_showcase_megathread/, unless your project is of a nature that deserves its own thread (you need to modmail us if you think that's the case).

  1. Out of scope
    This subreddit is for discussion related to university-level and other education in computer science and related fields (e.g. computer engineering, maths, information science, etc.). For more general college/university questions, please check out /r/college. For questions that are more about careers/jobs than they are about college CS, please check out /r/cscareerquestions
  2. Respectful Engagement
    Offensive posts or comments are not permitted. Common sense is expected from users. This also applies to direct messages (modmail us if someone is trying to harass you that way). **Note**: in a small number of cases, we may use automated methods to block suspected accounts. Should you find yourself blocked by mistake, just modmail us.
  3. Shitposts and memes
    Not allowed without mod authorisation (except on Sundays). Use a subreddit like r/ProgrammerHumor instead otherwise.

    Post it in the resume sticky thread. Otherwise you risk the thread being removed. Alternatively, post it somewhere like r/EngineeringResumes.
  6. Amazon [currently optional]
    It's recommended to post Amazon-related queries in its [dedicated megathreads](https://www.reddit.com/r/csMajors/comments/xx7h7r/for_anything_related_to_amazon_3/). However, this is currently optional as of 19/3/26.
  7. Discussing online assessment and interview questions
    * You may **not** discuss live OA questions on this subreddit. By "live" we mean official CodeSignal assessment questions, or questions that are being currently used in a company's online assessment (the platform used does not matter). Practice questions (such as CodeSignal's practice tests) are fine. * While this rule does not apply for interviews, users are discouraged from discussing questions where they have signed an NDA not to share.
  8. Spam

  9. Lazy or low-quality posts
    Posts are expected to have a certain level of _effort_ put into it. Things that are likely to get the post removed include: * a post which is not comprehensible (or has an empty body). This also applies to crossposts that have just a title/blank/are low effort. * a post with a poll and little else. This is commonly seen in posts that are asking readers to choose a company for them. We expect the poster to provide some details, such as the location of the roles, and what _they_ think of them.
  10. Common questions
    You're expected to search the subreddit to see if your question has already been answered before making a post.

    It's not really within the scope of this subreddit; use r/SuggestALaptop or r/laptops instead. Expect posts under this category to be removed. To be clear, this includes posts asking the community to suggest a laptop for them.
  14. Restricted posts
    * "Is CS for me"/"Regret majoring in CS"/"Job market is bad" * UPS memes * H1B and related discussion * General discussion about diversity-based initiatives (DEI), not including GHC (Grace Hopper) or specific company-based pipelines (such as Google STEP/Microsoft Explore) New posts on these topics are not allowed without moderator approval; attempts to evade can lead to a ban.
