This page quotes r/egyptology's rules as ThreadFox read them on 2026-10-12. The quoted text is the community's; the verdict above is our reading of it. Conditions often decide whether a post fits (a required thread, flair, posting day, account age or karma), and r/egyptology's current rules on Reddit always win over this page.
Free, for a specific product: a researched Reddit plan by email (communities whose rules fit your post, quoted and dated), or ThreadFox Lite, read-only tools an AI assistant can use to read a community's current rules itself, through your own Chrome (Claude Code: claude mcp add threadfox-lite -- uvx threadfox-lite). - its rules on Reddit
This subreddit is for practitioners and fans of Egyptology — the study of ancient Egyptian history, language, literature, religion, architecture, and art. We seek to educate and inspire interest in ancient Egypt.
What its rules say about promotion
No Artifact Sales, Purchases, or Identification
No selling or trading of artifacts is permitted, regardless of the item's provenance. Similarly, we do not identify purchased antiquities. This is to avoid interaction with potentially illegal artifacts that have been smuggled, traded, or looted. Sharing artifacts of known provenance is permitted, as long as said provenance is included with post as proof.
What its rules say about AI and bots
No AI generated images or articles
With the advent of technology, AI has been used to push misinformation everywhere. As such please refrain from using AI as it is easy to manipulate and has been used by bad actors to push false narratives in Egyptology.
All 8 rules of r/egyptology
- Keep It Civil
Personal attacks, abusive language, trolling, or bigotry in any form is not tolerated. No hate material, be it submissions or comments, is accepted. Follow [reddiquette](https://www.reddit.com/wiki/human_reddiquette) and remember the human behind the keyboard. - Keep It Relevant
This is a forum for Egyptology — the study of ancient Egyptian history, language, literature, religion, architecture, and art from the 5th millennium BCE until the end of its native religious practices in the 4th century CE. Post about other topics are not acceptable. - Include Context and Details
When posting, include context and details in the title of your post. Simple posts with no context or educational value will be removed (example: a picture of the pyramids titled only "Pyramids at Giza"). - No Artifact Sales, Purchases, or Identification
- No Pseudoarchaeology
This is a sub dedicated to the practice of Egyptology, as such theories peddling Atlantis, Aliens or Long lost advanced technology are not permitted. - No Racism
Often a heated topic when it comes to Egyptology, do not over generalise the race of the Egyptians by calling them all white or all black. Healthy discussion of Ancient ethnicities and DNA is welcome, using it to justify hate or push an agenda is not. - No AI generated images or articles
With the advent of technology, AI has been used to push misinformation everywhere. As such please refrain from using AI as it is easy to manipulate and has been used by bad actors to push false narratives in Egyptology. - No posts about race and ethnicity.
Posts and comments discussing the race, skin color, or physiological appearance of ancient Egyptians or modern Egyptians are prohibited. Posts and discussions of mummified humans and ancient DNA are permitted, but not in the wider context of modern concepts of race and ethnicity. DNA posts and comments may be removed at moderator discretion, particularly if it is clear an agenda is being pushed.
What the written rules don't show
- Unpublished minimums. Many communities remove posts from new or low-karma accounts through AutoModerator settings that are not on the rules page, often before a moderator sees them.
- Reddit's own filters. Reddit's site-wide spam filters can remove posts from accounts that mostly share links to their own site, in any community.
- The community's norms. Many communities see themselves as peers, not an audience: post where you already take part, and make the post worth reading without the link.
Let your AI read the rules before it posts.
ThreadFox reads a community's current rules, writes a post that fits them, posts once with Reddit's Brand affiliate tag and checks it stayed up. The free ThreadFox Lite reads rules too.
