What this page is

This page quotes r/Filmmaker4Filmmaker's rules as ThreadFox read them on 2026-10-12. The quoted text is the community's; the verdict above is our reading of it. Free, for a specific product: a researched Reddit plan by email (communities whose rules fit your post, quoted and dated), or ThreadFox Lite, read-only tools an AI assistant can use to read a community's current rules itself, through your own Chrome (Claude Code: claude mcp add threadfox-lite -- uvx threadfox-lite). For an assistant that also writes and posts within each community's rules, the ThreadFox kit is $49 once.

What its rules say about promotion

No self-promo spam
Sharing your own work is welcome if it sparks discussion or learning (e.g., “Here’s my short film – I’d love feedback on the cinematography choices”). **ALL REQUESTS FOR FEEDBACK MUST BE PLACED IN THE COMMENT OF PINNED POST AT THE TOP.** Pure promotion (just links without context) will be removed. If posts do not include a description of the work and specific requests for feedback, it will be removed. Crowdfunding, merch, or unrelated promo links are not allowed.

What its rules say about AI and bots

No AI-only / auto-generated spam
Discussions of AI tools in filmmaking are allowed, but posting AI-generated scripts or films with no human effort/context is not. Posts should focus on filmmaking craft and process.
All 9 rules of r/Filmmaker4Filmmaker
  1. Be respectful & constructive
No personal attacks, hate speech, harassment, or trolling. Give feedback in a way you’d want to receive it. Passion is welcome; disrespect is not.
  2. Stay on topic – filmmaking for filmmakers
Posts must relate to filmmaking (directing, writing, producing, cinematography, editing, sound, distribution, festivals, etc.). Off-topic or spam content will be removed.
  4. Use appropriate post flairs
Mark your posts clearly: Discussion, Question, Feedback Request, Resource, Crew, Meet-up, etc. Helps keep the subreddit organized and easy to browse.
  5. Feedback requests must be specific
If you share work for critique, ask direct questions (e.g., “How’s the pacing?” “Does this dialogue feel natural?”). **ALL REQUESTS FOR FEEDBACK MUST BE PLACED IN THE COMMENT OF PINNED POST AT THE TOP.** Avoid generic “What do you think?” posts. If posts do not include a description of the work and specific requests for feedback, it will be removed.
  6. No piracy or illegal content
Don’t request or share pirated scripts, movies, software, or paid course material. Industry professionals browse here — let’s keep it clean.
  7. No AI-only / auto-generated spam
Discussions of AI tools in filmmaking are allowed, but posting AI-generated scripts or films with no human effort/context is not. Posts should focus on filmmaking craft and process.
  8. Moderator discretion
Mods reserve the right to remove posts/comments that hurt the community, even if they don’t break a specific rule. If you feel a decision was unfair, message the mods respectfully.
  9. Above all else - we are about networking!
Our goal is to connect | collaborate | learn | support | discuss. Just keep all posts within those bounds and we will grow as a community!

What the written rules don't show

  • Unpublished minimums. Many communities remove posts from new or low-karma accounts through AutoModerator settings that are not on the rules page, often before a moderator sees them.
  • Reddit's own filters. Reddit's site-wide spam filters can remove posts from accounts that mostly share links to their own site, in any community.
  • The community's norms. Many communities see themselves as peers, not an audience: post where you already take part, and make the post worth reading without the link.

Let your AI read the rules before it posts.

ThreadFox reads a community's current rules, writes a post that fits them, posts once with Reddit's Brand affiliate tag and checks it stayed up. The free ThreadFox Lite reads rules too.
