What this page is

This page quotes r/HealthInsurance's rules as ThreadFox read them on 2026-10-08. The quoted text is the community's; the verdict above is our reading of it. Conditions often decide whether a post fits (a required thread, flair, posting day, account age or karma), and r/HealthInsurance's current rules on Reddit always win over this page.

Free, for a specific product: a researched Reddit plan by email (communities whose rules fit your post, quoted and dated), or ThreadFox Lite, read-only tools an AI assistant can use to read a community's current rules itself, through your own Chrome (Claude Code: claude mcp add threadfox-lite -- uvx threadfox-lite). For an assistant that also writes and posts within each community's rules, the ThreadFox kit is $49 once.

Want to post here? Get ThreadFox ($49): your AI (Claude Desktop, Claude Code or Codex) reads a community's current rules, writes one post that fits and posts once from your own Chrome. No Claude? Health insurance in the United States is complex, and we're here to help you navigate it! Please note that this subreddit is primarily focused on the US-based health insurance space. Warning: Solicitation will result in a permanent ban. If you've received solicitations via DM, please let the mod team know!

What its rules say about promotion

Don't attempt to get clients, refer people to your broker, or send people PMs for "more info".
Insurance agents should not use r/HealthInsurance as a means to get new clients. It's generally required that all discussions are kept within the confines of a thread and not taken to DMs. Remember: Report any DM you may receive from another user directly to r/HealthInsurance moderators. This includes advertising your App, website, services, etc. Even if it is free.
No advertising or spamming
Do not advertise your websites or services anywhere. r/HealthInsurance exists for genuine discussions about health insurance and for people seeking assistance navigating the system, not as a place for companies to advertise or otherwise promote their products.
No affiliate, referral, or broker links
Affiliate links and referral links are never allowed. If you are posting a link to a resource, please remove any affiliate/tracking from the link. An exception *may* be allowed for paywalled sources being shared with a "free access" code (such as to the NY Times, for example) at moderator discretion. Private broker referrals (links or otherwise) are never allowed (Rule 1). This does not apply to official state marketplaces, nor to people posting about their experience with a site.

What its rules say about AI and bots

No LLMs / GenAI
No LLMs / Generative AI. Don't compose questions with it, don't recommend it, and don't use it to answer questions. Health insurance is incredibly nuanced and state / county-specific. Health insurance and health policy is a constantly evolving landscape, and this subreddit requires contributors to use actual knowledge and expertise to answer rather than yielding to AI-generated answers. AI hallucinations often do more harm than the potential good, so all AI use is forbidden.
All 12 rules of r/HealthInsurance
  2. Keep discussion on the subreddit
The purpose of this subreddit is to answer questions for members, but also to serve as a resource to others who find their way here seeking assistance. Because of this, we require public response over private message. Requesting people take conversation to DMs is not allowed and requests for DMs will result in an immediate and permanent ban. Please report any attempts to take things to DMs/off-subreddit to the moderators.
  3. No advertising or spamming
Do not advertise your websites or services anywhere. r/HealthInsurance exists for genuine discussions about health insurance and for people seeking assistance navigating the system, not as a place for companies to advertise or otherwise promote their products.
  4. No diet or medical advice
r/HealthInsurance is not a subreddit intended to render diet or medical advice of any kind. Please seek your healthcare professional's advice to confirm anything you read here. Discussing alternatives to a denied therapy/treatment is permissible, as is explaining potential medical reasons for denial. If you do so, please ensure you are being general and not giving specific advice as to what may be appropriate for an individual person.
  6. Be friendly and act in good faith. No hatred, malice or wishes/threats of violence to anyone.
Act in good faith and treat other users respectfully. We understand navigating the health insurance system can be frustrating, but this is Reddit - nobody is getting paid to do this, and people are often asking questions they don’t understand. To put it simply, please treat those helping you respectfully and don't attack others who are seeking or providing help. There is zero tolerance for encouragement of violence, malice or ill-will towards anyone, whether in the subreddit or elsewhere.
  7. Be helpful and add to the conversation
Keep replies and comments helpful - if all you have to say is something that’s already been said and explained, please use the upvote feature to signify your agreement, especially if you have nothing more at all to add. Whenever possible, please try to *explain* the reasoning/details behind the answer you’re providing and not just give an answer. Comments not adding to the conversation or are negatively “dog piling” (same answer/explanation already given) may be removed.
  8. No politics
US health care is inherently political, but this subreddit isn't for diving into political or policy discussions. This subreddit is for assisting individuals in finding coverage and working through real-world issues they're having with their coverage. Explaining the legal/regulatory reasoning for a situation is not a violation of this rule, but keep the conversation on topic - do not use this as a reason to discuss politics beyond explaining the laws/regulations that apply.
  9. No "contact the media" suggestions
Do not suggest that users contact the media over their insurance disputes. This is unhelpful and will generally not provide anything for the person. For clarity, this does *not* apply to suggesting someone contact (state or national) regulatory bodies when applicable, nor to suggesting users contact their legislature if they are seeking a change in a law related to health insurance.
  11. News/research/surveys need pre-approval
Given the amount of personal information involved in healthcare/insurance, we require any academic research and/or reporters/journalists to reach out to the mod team in advance to discuss before posting anything about their research/interview requests/etc. Please reach out to the modmail if you wish to discuss a potential post/request in the subreddit. Posts related to newsgathering/surveys without prior approval will be removed. We do not approve product development/business requests.
  12. No Market Research
While we do appreciate that you have an interest in creating a product or providing a service, this space is not intended for your market research inquiries. Do not post about your idea, ask for input or seek feedback for a product or service you are developing.

What the written rules don't show

  • Unpublished minimums. Many communities remove posts from new or low-karma accounts through AutoModerator settings that are not on the rules page, often before a moderator sees them.
  • Reddit's own filters. Reddit's site-wide spam filters can remove posts from accounts that mostly share links to their own site, in any community.
  • The community's norms. Many communities see themselves as peers, not an audience: post where you already take part, and make the post worth reading without the link.

Let your AI read the rules before it posts.

ThreadFox reads a community's current rules, writes a post that fits them, posts once with Reddit's Brand affiliate tag and checks it stayed up. The free ThreadFox Lite reads rules too.
