What this page is
This page quotes r/HFY's rules as ThreadFox read them on 2026-10-12. The quoted text is the community's; the verdict above is our reading of it. Conditions often decide whether a post fits (a required thread, flair, posting day, account age or karma), and r/HFY's current rules on Reddit always win over this page.
Free, for a specific product: a researched Reddit plan by email (communities whose rules fit your post, quoted and dated), or ThreadFox Lite, read-only tools an AI assistant can use to read a community's current rules itself, through your own Chrome (Claude Code: claude mcp add threadfox-lite -- uvx threadfox-lite). For an assistant that also writes and posts within each community's rules, the ThreadFox kit is $49 once.
Want to post here? Get ThreadFox ($49): your AI (Claude Desktop, Claude Code or Codex) reads a community's current rules, writes one post that fits and posts once from your own Chrome. No Claude? We'll post for you ($49 per 30-day campaign). Free: a Reddit launch plan for your product, ThreadFox Lite or the posting checklist by email.

What its rules say about promotion
Standalone Advertising/Off-site hosting
We do not deny an author's need to promote their work, however we do require this only be done in a relevant context. Any link not otherwise associated with an OC post must have a summary or similar descriptor that fulfils rule #8, providing relevant OC information. Standalone posts which serve only to advertise wares, commercial or non-commercial, will be removed.
What its rules say about AI and bots
Effort & Substance
Any original story posted on r/HFY must be written by the poster and at least 350 words in length, excluding any links, preambles, or author's notes. Low-Effort Karma farming posts will be removed. No AI generated stories are allowed. Creative works that are shorter due to the chosen medium (i.e. poems) will be adjudicated on an individual basis.
All 8 rules of r/HFY
- General Rules
Please read **and follow** our [Standards and Expectations](/r/hfy/wiki/ref/standards_and_expectations) for posting. Read the rest of the rules. Check out our [FAQ](/r/HFY/wiki/ref/faq) for info on posting stories. If you are searching for a specific story, please use the built in search function or check the [Classics](/r/hfy/wiki/ref/classics), [Featured](/r/HFY/wiki/featured), and [Must Read](/r/HFY/wiki/ref/must_read) lists before making a post. - No Writing Prompt or Looking For Story threads
Post all writing prompts to the latest [Writing Prompt Wednesday](https://www.reddit.com/r/HFY/wiki/ref/prompts) thread (see sidebar for link). Do not post any writing contests. Additionally, do not post any "looking for story" requests that are simply disguised writing prompts. Post all "looking for story" requests to the latest [Official LFS thread](https://www.reddit.com/r/HFY/wiki/ref/lfs) (see sidebar for link). - Do not say that a post does not belong in the sub
Do not comment that a post is "not HFY" or suggest that it does not belong in the sub. If you have concerns with a post, please [message the mods](http://www.reddit.com/message/compose?to=%2Fr%2FHFY) instead of posting a comment reply. See our [Standards and Expectations](/r/hfy/wiki/ref/standards_and_expectations#wiki_don.27t_call_a_story_.22not_hfy.22) for more information. - Flair your post
Apply the appropriate [flair](/r/hfy/wiki/ref/guidelines) to your story after posting to make it easier to find certain types of posts. The [bots](https://www.reddit.com/r/HFY/wiki/tools) will not comment if your post does not have the correct flair. If you include the flair in brackets in the title, Automoderator will apply the flair for you. - Do not redistribute/plagiarise another's work
Do not republish or reproduce another author's work without [their permission](https://www.reddit.com/r/HFY/wiki/ref/standards_and_expectations#wiki_author_permission). This includes converting stories into an ebook format and making it available to others or recreating the story in audio/video format. Once you have obtained an author's permission, please directly state it in your post. Plagiarism of another author's work is a bannable offense. - Max 4 posts within 24 hours
Limit yourself to posting at most 4 posts within 24 hours of each other to avoid having one author take over the front page. If you are trying to post a single story as multiple parts due to character limits and it would require more than 4 parts, please [message the mods](http://www.reddit.com/message/compose?to=%2Fr%2FHFY) **first** so we can approve it. - Standalone Advertising/Off-site hosting

What the written rules don't show
- Unpublished minimums. Many communities remove posts from new or low-karma accounts through AutoModerator settings that are not on the rules page, often before a moderator sees them.
- Reddit's own filters. Reddit's site-wide spam filters can remove posts from accounts that mostly share links to their own site, in any community.
- The community's norms. Many communities see themselves as peers, not an audience: post where you already take part, and make the post worth reading without the link.
Let your AI read the rules before it posts.
ThreadFox reads a community's current rules, writes a post that fits them, posts once with Reddit's Brand affiliate tag and checks it stayed up. The free ThreadFox Lite reads rules too.
