What its rules say about AI and bots

No AI based answers
An OP may use AI to help them ask a question, but no comments or answers may be AI based or suggest using AI services.
All 11 rules of r/legaladvicecanada
  1. Guidelines for posts
Posts which violate these guidelines may be removed: * include a brief summary of the situation and then ask a clear legal question * must be about a real scenario, **not a hypothetical** * if the question is about a specific criminal charge or traffic violation, include its name or reference (e.g. to the Criminal Code section) * we cannot review your contract, plan your defense, or give you specific advice on how to present your case with the court. * do not repost the same question
  2. Guidelines for Comments (this is a legal advice subreddit)
Comments which violate these guidelines may be removed, and could result in a ban: * comments must contain a legal (or strongly related non-legal) answer, and be reasonably detailed and explanatory * No personal attacks, nor can they only serve to berate others * Disagreements should be respectful * The following are considered off topic: * Personal anecdotes * Explanations of the law in different jurisdictions * Opinions on the law * Credential fights * Update requests
  3. No Illegal Advice
Illegal advice is never allowed, for any reason, in any circumstance.
  4. No Identification of Any Involved Party
Attempts to identify any of the parties involved will not be tolerated, even if the party is a company or an organization. No information that can identify either party is allowed. That includes news articles, photographs, license plate numbers, et cetera.
  5. No Recommendations, Referrals or Advertising
Recommendations or requests for specific lawyers or legal services are not allowed. Links to for-profit lawyers, including their websites, blogs, etc, are barred. Advertising a product or service in which the poster is personally involved is strictly prohibited. Links to not-for-profit or governmental organizations may be acceptable, subject to moderator discretion. Recommendations of other products or services in comments will be reviewed for topicality and general appropriateness.
  6. No off-subreddit discussion
Comments must be related to the question. No attempts, requests, or offers to take the discussion off the subreddit are allowed (via DM, chat, other messaging etc)
  7. No Posts to Video Sites
Posts to video sites, including YouTube, are barred. This includes direct links, recommendations to watch a video, or a description of how to get to the video ("Google this title!")
  8. No Arguing with Moderators
Do not argue with moderator decisions in the comments. If you believe an error has been made, or you would like to discuss further, send the moderators [modmail](https://reddit.com/message/compose?to=/r/legaladvicecanada) (not personal mail).
  9. Do Not Advise People To Contact The Media
Advice to contact the media, post on social media, or otherwise publicize a legal problem will not be tolerated in any circumstance.
  10. No AI based answers
An OP may use AI to help them ask a question, but no comments or answers may be AI based or suggest using AI services.
  11. No simplistic "call a lawyer" comments
Advice to call a lawyer may not be practical given the costs or specific issues at hand. Advice to call a lawyer must be accompanied by some further reasoning, direction, or information about how a lawyer can be retained or paid for, or why calling a lawyer is needed. "Call a lawyer", "lawyer", "lawyer up", etc as comments, with no other information or guidance, will be removed as being too simplistic.

What the written rules don't show

  • Unpublished minimums. Many communities remove posts from new or low-karma accounts through AutoModerator settings that are not on the rules page, often before a moderator sees them.
  • Reddit's own filters. Reddit's site-wide spam filters can remove posts from accounts that mostly share links to their own site, in any community.
  • The community's norms. Many communities see themselves as peers, not an audience: post where you already take part, and make the post worth reading without the link.

Let your AI read the rules before it posts.

ThreadFox reads a community's current rules, writes a post that fits them, posts once with Reddit's Brand affiliate tag and checks it stayed up. The free ThreadFox Lite reads rules too.
