What this page is
This page quotes r/lgbt's rules as ThreadFox read them on 2026-10-12. The quoted text is the community's; the verdict above is our reading of it. Conditions often decide whether a post fits (a required thread, flair, posting day, account age or karma), and r/lgbt's current rules on Reddit always win over this page.
Free, for a specific product: a researched Reddit plan by email (communities whose rules fit your post, quoted and dated), or ThreadFox Lite, read-only tools an AI assistant can use to read a community's current rules itself, through your own Chrome (Claude Code: claude mcp add threadfox-lite -- uvx threadfox-lite). - its rules on Reddit
A safe space for GSRM (Gender, Sexual, and Romantic Minority) folk to discuss their lives, issues, interests, and passions. LGBT is still a popular term used to discuss gender and sexual minorities, but all GSRM are welcome beyond lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people who consent to participate in a safe space.
What its rules say about promotion
No advertisements, spam, or crowdfunders.
r/lgbt is here for LGBTQ+ people, their lives, their stories, their content. It is not here for advertising or spam. This includes posts advertising social media or blog accounts; online shops whether corporate or in dependent; personal ads for dating, hook-up, friendships etc; adverts for adult services; crowdfunding of any kind; giveaways, prize draws or other free product. We do not allow posting of content and subsequent links to for where to buy.
No promoting hate
Having posted to subreddits with a negative reputation is not necessarily grounds for an automatic ban, but users whose posting history contains bigotry will be met with intense scrutiny.
No posts asking to rate, roast, or make assumptions about you or your identity.
These posts encourage stereotyping or making assumptions about people based on presentation. Often these can make people uncomfortable and bring out a mix of stereotypes and pressure to present a specific way. This rule includes, but is not limiting to; asking whether or not you pass, asking people to guess your gender/sexuality, and asking people to make assumptions about you based on your appearance.
No Unproductive Doomposting
No posts intended to create division within the community. No posts intended to cause alarm without proposing realistic solutions (ex: write to your elected representative about an upcoming law) No sharing news articles that promote hate or set one vulnerable minority group against another. No discouraging people to participate in elections or political activism. No meta commentary about the community.
What its rules say about AI and bots
No Generative AI
/r/lgbt strives to encourage creativity; data centres that are destroying the planet are not included as part of this. GenerativeAI content is banned.
All 15 rules of r/lgbt
- Be respectful
No GSRM-Phobic content (i.e: homophobia, bi/panphobia, transphobia, aphobia, as well as racism, serophobia, ableism, or sexism) Do not try to start an argument for the sake of an argument. Do not make personal attacks. - Must have willingness to learn; no 'you're too sensitive'
Demonstrate a willingness to learn. This is a safe space. Anyone can make a mistake and accidentally say something hurtful or triggering. If you find yourself corrected for making this error, please try to learn from it. This is not a place to tell people that they need to reclaim a pejorative so you can use it, that they should laugh at jokes about them, or that they otherwise just "shouldn't be so sensitive." For lightly moderated LGBT-related discussion, we recommend /r/ainbow. - No bait-and-switch posts
Bait and switch type threads, where the title makes them look like a bigot but the body is supportive, are not allowed on r/lgbt. LGBTQ+ people see enough hate in our lives, without 'Gotcha' bait posts. - No advertisements, spam, or crowdfunders.

Having posted to subreddits with a negative reputation is not necessarily grounds for an automatic ban, but users whose posting history contains bigotry will be met with intense scrutiny. - Don't share hate speech
r/lgbt is a safe space, and while we want everyone to be able to seek support and advice, sharing hate speech in any way can cause harm to the community. - Please don't direct message individual Mods about a Moderation issue - use ModMail!
Please [send a ModMail](https://reddit.com/message/compose?to=/r/lgbt) to r/lgbt rather than DM'ing individual moderators as this will allow the correct moderator to deal with the issue, and allows the Moderation Team to know what is going on. - NSFW Content
r/lgbt is meant to be safe for users of all ages. Do not submit content that a reasonable viewer may not want to be seen accessing in public or at the workplace. This includes pornography, sexualized content, graphic violence, or similar. Discussions of sexual topics, including sexual health, are permitted but must be tagged NSFW. - Provide sources when sharing news
We require any post sharing news/social media reactions to news articles to include a link to the original article or announcement in the post body. - No posts asking to rate, roast, or make assumptions about you or your identity.
- Moderator Discretion
Unfortunately, there will always be some things that our rules do not currently or perfectly cover. In those cases, we reserve the right to take action and remove anything that we think could potentially cause harm or does not fit within the spirit of the community and the safe space we maintain here. - Use Content Warning flair for upsetting posts.
If you think community members might be upset by the content you are sharing, use the content warning flair, adding a short description. The post will be automatically marked as a spoiler, but please check our rules on NSFW content and sharing hate. What the written rules don't show
- Unpublished minimums. Many communities remove posts from new or low-karma accounts through AutoModerator settings that are not on the rules page, often before a moderator sees them.
- Reddit's own filters. Reddit's site-wide spam filters can remove posts from accounts that mostly share links to their own site, in any community.
- The community's norms. Many communities see themselves as peers, not an audience: post where you already take part, and make the post worth reading without the link.
Let your AI read the rules before it posts.
