What this page is
This page quotes r/magicTCG's rules as ThreadFox read them on 2026-10-11. The quoted text is the community's; the verdict above is our reading of it. Conditions often decide whether a post fits (a required thread, flair, posting day, account age or karma), and r/magicTCG's current rules on Reddit always win over this page.
Free, for a specific product: a researched Reddit plan by email (communities whose rules fit your post, quoted and dated), or ThreadFox Lite, read-only tools an AI assistant can use to read a community's current rules itself, through your own Chrome (Claude Code: claude mcp add threadfox-lite -- uvx threadfox-lite). For an assistant that also writes and posts within each community's rules, the ThreadFox kit is $49 once.
Want to post here? Get ThreadFox ($49): your AI (Claude Desktop, Claude Code or Codex) reads a community's current rules, writes one post that fits and posts once from your own Chrome. No Claude? We'll post for you ($49 per 30-day campaign). Free: a Reddit launch plan for your product, ThreadFox Lite or the posting checklist by email.

What its rules say about promotion
Rule 5: Posts for consolidated threads must be in those threads
We publish a weekly buy/sell/trade thread. We also publish consolidated threads, and Universes Beyond speculation/request threads. Posts on these topics will be removed, regardless of number of responses. In addition, sell/trade posts where we believe the product to be counterfeit, scams, or stolen product, will also be accompanied by a ban. We are zero tolerance on these matters.
Rule 10: Follow the content-creator guidelines
See our comprehensive rules page, linked in the sidebar, for these guidelines. You're expected to read them before you begin posting Repeat offenders will be faced with longer than typical temporary bans, as many content creators do not otherwise engage with the sub. Subsequent bans are typically permanent, as our expectation is that content creators read the rules first. Attempting to bypass this will result in your site/channel being blacklisted. DO NOT self promote in comments of other posts
Rule 12: Arts & Crafts on Fridays only
We recently moved to a community "Arts and crafts" banner on Fridays - all fan art, custom build products, alters etc, are to be displayed then! Fan Art Friday runs from approximately 12 AM PST to 11:59 PM PST (UTC-8). All posts tagged as part of the “Art Showcase” other than official artwork will be automatically removed unless it’s Friday. Please do not try to bypass this rule. People are very receptive to fan creations on Fridays.
What its rules say about AI and bots
Rule 2: No low-effort posts.
Low-effort posts (such as text memes) are not allowed. This includes posts that are just a picture of a contextless game, “IRL looks like magic”, and all AI-generated posts. Any baseless accusation of AI use will receive a permanent ban if the artist proves it isn’t AI, until the art is reprinted. If you’re going to ask if your card or product is real, go to r/realornottcg instead.
Rule 13: No AI text/images, Code to be disclosed
AI generated content is not allowed on this sub - this includes images and posts. First offences are unlikely ban, but further offences after warnings will result in immediate *permanent* bans. This applies to user accounts. If you have a bot you'd like the sub to allow, please message us directly for approval so we don't ban it. Any apps or other coded projects must include an AI usage disclaimer such as the REAL scale or https://ai-declaration.md/en/0.1.2/
All 13 rules of r/magicTCG
- Rule 1: Keep it friendly and welcoming
No personal attacks, insults, slurs, or any other content or behavior meant to hurt or be mean-spirited. Mild offences may be given a written warning or no warning. Moderate offences will receive a temporary ban, typically 7 days, at moderator discretion. Serious offences such as racial or homophobic slurs will typically receive a permanent ban with no other notice. This is your warning. Repeat offences will escalate in duration, 3rd offences usually being permanent. - Rule 2: No low-effort posts.
- Rule 3: No sexually explicit content or violence/disturbing imagery
Gratuitous sexual or violent content is not allowed here. - Rule 4: No counterfeit cards
Encouraging, endorsing, or telling people where or how to get counterfeit cards is not allowed and will earn an instant permanent ban. A proxy is not a counterfeit. Proxies cannot be confused for real magic cards, even by an inexperienced player. WotC refer to these as “playtest cards”, and their use is allowed and encouraged in non-tournament play. Counterfeits that can be confused for legitimate cards can get you banned for life from the game, and/or face legal action. - Rule 5: Posts for consolidated threads must be in those threads
- Rule 6: Community-interest posts in modicum
Constructive and relevant posts about the Magic community/community figures are generally allowed, but please keep the subreddit on-topic. Posts which exist solely to accuse someone of cheating are not allowed and will be removed. Post about the community regarding Hygiene, Communication, and Gender Ratio are only allowed infrequently, as they are known problems with the general “nerd community” and not just MTG. Unless there’s a new problem with a specific event, trust we already know. - Rule 7: No posts that are just pictures of cards
Posts that are just pictures/video of cards you got/saw/etc. are not allowed here. If you have a rules question about a card, we prefer you do it as a text post instead. /r/MagicCardPulls exists as a subreddit and we encourage you to instead visit them and post there, compliant with their own rules. - Rule 8: This is /r/magictcg, not /r/politics
Posting just to argue about politics, political figures, political policies, or culture-war topics is forbidden. Do not use this rule to harass queer people. Offenders who use this will be permanently banned when caught, and may be banned by Reddit admins for abusing the report function. - Rule 9: Flair your post appropriately
"Flair" helps to categorize your post for easier browsing and searching. If your post is flaired incorrectly, a moderator will usually do it manually, but it is annoying, so please do it yourself. Very rarely we will remove a post under this rule. Usually this is because you’re posting something from a content creator or you’ve tagged something that’s not a new card spoiler as a spoiler. Please don’t do that. - Rule 10: Follow the content-creator guidelines
DO NOT self promote in comments of other posts - Rule 11: No links to Twitter/X
You are free to post a screenshot of a tweet with relevant magic news that isn't available elsewhere, but not link to the site itself. Bluesky and other networks are not Twitter. Do not report those. - Rule 12: Arts & Crafts on Fridays only

What the written rules don't show
- Unpublished minimums. Many communities remove posts from new or low-karma accounts through AutoModerator settings that are not on the rules page, often before a moderator sees them.
- Reddit's own filters. Reddit's site-wide spam filters can remove posts from accounts that mostly share links to their own site, in any community.
- The community's norms. Many communities see themselves as peers, not an audience: post where you already take part, and make the post worth reading without the link.
Let your AI read the rules before it posts.
